12,000 Mile, and Annual Service

Called my dealer today to set an appointment for my 12,000 mile service on my 07. Service Dude asked me If I had an annual service done last year cause BMW suggests an annual service done every two years.(huh?) I asked him what it includes and he started babbling something about ABS System Check, valves, blah, blah. You would think with the number of time I came into to talk to him about my Ignition he would know - ABS babble will not cut it. So between now and the appointment the 12,000 mile and Annual Service will be defined and it will include a rear end fluid change. btw I was quoted all day, and at least $500.

My questions.

anybody have any cost comparisons for the 12,000 check, and what did it include?
anbody have an annual service in addition to the 6, 12,000 mile check done?



and yes I will be buying the service tools and DVD soon.

I'm no mechanic, but I would think the 12,000 mile service would make an annual service redundant...

I have a '07 R1200R. Roughly 18,000 miles on it. I was having idle issues, so I went in and talked to my local BMW wrench. First, I was scolded for not bringing it in on a regular basis so they "can monitor such issues". When I bought it in for service, the wrench punched my bike numbers into the computer and said that my bike had two recalls on it. The first was an idle sensor gizmo, the second was the front brake lines. The idle sensor gizmo cured my idling issues, and I got a good deal on a brake fluid change since they replaced the lines anyway. When you bring your bike in, mention these recalls to him.

My 12K service was $483.39 which included doing a full gear oil change with my own full synthetic . Actual mechanic time was 3.0 hrs, and I also got to play with an F800GS all day ! Nice bike.

I really hope you mean you got the brake fluid for free ... it should have been covered under the warranty, since clearing and bleeding the lines is part of the line replacement procedure.

If not, I'd seriously consider changing dealers. (Yes, over a little thing like that ... it's indicative of how they'll treat you on the big things.)

I will be going through the itemized checklist this weekend,,, Beside being quoted twice as much $$, I was also told it would take all day - neither happened.

The dealer supplied Check list read as follows.

BMW Motorad, Maintenace schedule, 0398 - R1200R, 00 00 131 BMW inspection with Annual Inspection (see Maintenance Schedule) (Annually every 20,00km)

The inspection included valve adjustment, oil change and filter, gear box maint, air filter, brake fluid change, and a boat load of inspections and checks.

The bill included: 3 oz 75W140 SuperSyn, 1 Hypod C Gear Oil 80/90W, 20/50 Dino Oil, and 5.1 Dot Brake Fluid. So if the final drive was not checked, but the transmission was where did the 1Hypod C Gear Oil 80/90 which was $7.50 or the 75W140 SuperSyn go AND I didn't know the trasmission used a lubricant seperate from your regular like a Harley.

The dealer's service writer is as dry as they come...even the owner thinks he needs to lighten up....I think I'm going to be hav'n some fun at lunch tomorrow.
