Re: R1200R Tank Bags
just sending a heads up concerning the quick lock system from SW Motech
I ordered the entire set up necessary to install the SW Motech powered bag on my 08 R1200R.
the replacement tank ring supplied by Motech does not fit the bike. the piece I got was slightly out of round. some filing and sanding took care of that but the real issue is that even if you get it to sit down on the tank the pins that are used to attach the plastic clip that holds the gas cap in place are too long. the cap will not close and fasten tightly. there is about 1/16 slop on the closure.
When I called the seller this morning he informed me that they were advised that this was problem (they just sent me the parts last week).....there should be a notice on their website telling the public.......there may not be a replacement part available for a few months.....
my options are at this point to drill the existing screwless ring to fit the mount or return the entire set up to Motech. They have offered to cover the cost of return shipping and will likely not charge the restocking fee due to the part being bad.....

Re: R1200R Tank Bags
Having been caught in another Florida Rainstorm yesterday (8 miles of interstate 45-50mph flashers, ect), needless to say soaked - 20 miles later the font half of me was dry, except my boots. I'm begining to think I should start carring my rain gear
But where? How? I typically ride my R naked only moto lights and P3 Tag/Brake lights.
So after and extensive seach and a couple of cups of joe I've almost settled in on a 11Litre RKA Shiloh Road Tank Bags - there goes by babby's nekidness. EXCEPT the bag needs a rain cover
Any thoughts or suggestions

I would be grateful if you bought a waterproof Hardshell System Tank Bag and gave us a review. Eilenberger mentioned the hardshell a few weeks ago. Runs about $280, more than twice the cost of the RKA Shiloh, but sleeker and possibly more naked-like. Probably does not hold 11 liters.parkec wrote: . . . What I really want is that bag, with the "Bags Connection" quick release system. (instead of straps)....websterize wrote:I would be grateful if you bought a waterproof Hardshell System Tank Bag and gave us a review. Eilenberger mentioned the hardshell a few weeks ago. Rick Korchak, editor at webBikeWorld, said he'll check out the Sargent Hardshell System Tank Bag. I hope he reviews it.

Hi Mark,
Do you have a part number for the BMW tank bag that fits the R1200R?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: R1200R Tank Bags
The BMW tank bag is about $250 with the 20-percent discount at Chicago BMW. I would phone in the order if you need it quick. I'm in the market for a tank bag, too.papasong wrote:Hi Mark, celticus wrote:I like my BMW bag made for this bike just fine, no complaints.

How do you get the 20% discount?
Is there a code to enter when you check out?

Re: R1200R Tank Bags
I have the BMW bag and like it. It can handle a large D&D coffee in the drive through lane (with the right lid) and get me to work without a spill. I did have these risers on -
Handle Bar Riser R1150R & R1200R 1" Rise 1-1/4" Setback and when turning the bars stop to stop the bars did push the bag slightly. So the horn would honk when getting out of the garage.
I put these on and there are no problems.

Re: R1200R Tank Bags
Don't know of a discount code. I order online and follow up by phone to confirm necessary parts and also confirm the balance with discount. I recently ordered the navigation mount, and after calling the parts man said I was missing some screws. (Tell me about it.) He added them, applied the discount, and the box arrived two weeks later.papasong wrote:How do you get the 20% discount?

I'm fairly sure they order Monday's and Thursday from Germany. Shipping speed and transparency with Chicago BMW isn't the same as amazon.com — if you need it quick, let them know.
