Beemeridian; the belt is a breeze; I did it the first time by the recommended method (same guys as OVAD?); pried old off & new on; took longer to R&R the cover than change the belt. I know the one of the guys had a problem w/ one of the cover bolts breaking but he got it fixed IIRC.

Talked to my brother, sister in law and they will be traveling to their place in Blairsville on the 23rd, so the timing looks good.

It would be nice to visit with you, Miss Ann and Boxer as we saw each other last, on October '07 at the Ozark, Arkansas Mini-Bash, likewise it will be nice to meet some of the tentative attendees as I personally haven't met any.

I'll be calling on you to see what I need to bring and to ask your help suggesting a reasonably close/inexpensive place to make two nights (Friday and Saturday) before pressing on to my brother's humble abode. BTW, according to Mapquest it is 578.4 miles to your place.....

I'd be interested, but my schedule is unpredictable lately. I'm close by (mall of GA area) so no major planing involved for me to come. Is the idea that we do a complete service on 1 bike? I'm coming due for my 36k service, but i've got ABS.

An ABS bike is OK . . . it just won't get the ABS serviced. There is a HUGE cost advantage to having everything else done away from the dealer. The 36K service lacks the fuel filter (done @ the 24K) but needs the alternator belt changed. I'm sure we'll find some other bike at/near the 24K that needs the fuel filter changed. That means more than one bike can have something important completed.

I have 2 EFI clamps, 1 oil filter & 2 air filters to resell cheap, but if selected the winner(s) will have to bring their own alternator belt or fuel filter.

So far for Saturday May 23rd we have the:
---Yes + definitely's---
Boxer
Beemeridian
boxermania
WildBlue
sabertooth
Roxster
Hottech *

---Possibles---
takemeaway
azellner *

* = PM me with your contact info (Home phone, screen name, odometer & E-Mail)

The group is almost full and the date is agreed upon (more or less). As the 23rd gets closer we can ink in the "definitely attending" for a final count. Then late arrivals can be added if there's room. Soon we'll sort out the odometer readings and finalize the bikes. With Boxer & Boxermania there too, there'll be other instructors for the easy stuff. Sorry Phil & Al, I just couldn't resist! \:D/

Not to worry if you miss this one, I can do it again.

Since I'm just dropping in for a visit sans a two wheeler, is there room for me to set up a beach chair, umbrella, a wall plug for my portabe flat screen and a mini cooler? I can record the event from my vantage position...... =D> =D>

The 23rd is looking good for me. Will probably be in DC the week prior...coming home on Friday if all goes well. Boxermania, if hubby comes he can pull up that spare chair next to you.

Gents,

I picked my bike up used and it didn't come with a manual or maintence records. I changed the oil, filter, and final drive oil 3K miles past just out of GP. Other then that I haven't touched anything maintence wise. Based on that statement, can someone provide me with a list of what I should be bringing in the way of parts to our little party? I am just shy of 11K. My current list includes:

Plugs
fuel filter
oil filter
oil

Anything else?

Should be bring a few extra hand tools?

On a side note,

If either of you (boxermania and CycleRob) get nostalgic and want to refresh the memories of your departed boxers, feel free to take mine for a spin.

Cheers,

Roxster,
Bring the plugs, oil filter and engine oil.
The fuel filter is replaced at 24,000 miles. You'll need to bring a quart of transmission oil. I have a new air filter, which you can have for 10 bucks. That's all. I have all the tools needed and more. You should be able to do your own valve adjustment here after watching and participating in the donor bike's being performed. Boxermania can supervise from his lawn chair if he promises to NOT remove the TB's BigBrassAirScrews for cleaning.

Rob, I'm looking at my schedule but so far doesn't look promising. As it turns out I will probably be in Sumter, SC the 20th thru 22nd teaching a tower climbing class. That's about 260 miles from you but the company I'm doing the work for wants to fly me there and back. If I can find a way to haul my equipment and ride I will do so and maybe pop in. I would love to but will have to see how things go.

It's your humble abode and your tech session, however, I take strong exception to your comment and I quote:
Boxermania can supervise from his lawn chair if he promises to NOT remove the TB's BigBrassAirScrews for cleaning.
The key word here is NOT, and the question is why not, your holiness.........:-k :-k :-k

Boxer, you better bring the TwinMax this time and with a new battery........ :^o :^o

For those that don't know me and the two yo-yo's above....we pick on each other all the time.......so pay no mind.

Okay, I'll settle this. First off I'm not a YoYo...If I must be compared to a toy, I prefer "Sit-n-Spin".

On the matter of the BBBS. I waver somewhere between the two above philosophies. That is, I don't believe in taking them out but maybe once every 79,000 miles or so to clean what little crud accumulates. Its just not worth the risk of my untrained hands to screw those sensitive babies in and out too much. There you have it. The good, bad and the ugly.
This Tech Day oughta be fun. Now my wife wants to come and see Al...her hero.

Phil.....don't be so sensitive, I used the word yo-yo as a term of endearment but if you want to be "Sit-n-Spin" it is fine by me. Do bring the TwinMax, and I won't forget that last time you had it in the truck, tucked behind the seat .

It wopuld be nice to visit with Miss Sparky and catch up.......be nice and bring her a lawn chair and umbrella. Looking forward to seeing you guys.

Boxermania called me today and we had a good talk, as always. The phrase "Teutonic arrogance " came up, in a bad but sadly, truthful way. Al offered to bring some special Louisiana chickens (frozen) . . . . "for those who what man food". I think he's confusing Lasagna with quiche. :smt061 His request for Boxer's TwinMax is to supplement and aid the use of my homemade 4 foot water manometer
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r87/ ... 1241153464
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r87/ ... 1241153562
the only problem with the water manometer is that it is so sensitive that if the 1st TB synch is too far off, the large vacuum difference wants to suck the water up-n-out the top and into the intake manifold. I also have 2 different Mercury Carb Styx for that large error dial in too.
Anyway, I should have my gas grille's disintegrated heat diffuser replaced by then if that's better than our new kitchen's oven. BTW, If anyone wants beer you can bring it and we'll keep it cold, just for you. Smokers will be politely asked to take a nature walk, some 100' away. :smt028

Wow, Jenny's coming too. I just met her April 18th when I was at their house to swap spare mufflers with Mr Sit-n-Spin. Boxer, from the other post on my screen, I'd say you should be the one to do the "show-n-tell" change of Beemeridian's alternator belt. I have the ¼" drive allen, wobble extensions, 3/8ths drive torquewrench and adapters that makes it easy.

DMM, I got your PM. Your bike is 1st in line to be the donor bike of the next Tech session. Your odometer will be closer to 12K by then too. The same parameters apply and for choosing the day/date. Anyone else out there that could not make May 23rd and would like to make the next one send me an info packed PM with at least your Screen name, E-Mail & home phone #.

Everyone should also watch this animation of an older AirHead Boxer motor so you'll fully understand the difference between TDC compression and TDC Exhaust on the Boxer motor, necessary when we adjust the valves:
http://www.animatedpiston.com/BMW.htm
Click on the small "Engine Strip" triangle repeatedly until the combustion chambers change colors with the piston movement. Cool.

Wow, Jenny's coming too.
Just like a woman....She has now amended her request to attend, with provisions. YIKES! She says she'd like to come if Ann is going to be there so they can do something "not so boring" while we play with the bikes. So is Ann working that day?

Boxer, No, She works part time, but not Saturdays. Besides, she has "volunteered" for kitchen duties for the group that day. Not to worry, Jenny will be delighted to pal around with Ann. If she comes on her own bike, she'll be able to leave any time she wants.

Hopefully, I should have my new F800ST by then . . . and GoldBoxer will be gone. :-"

About the T-Session, I have a feeling that some things will get done to the other bikes too. Even if it's just checking everybody's tire pressures and rear wheel lugbolt torque. If anyone has a foldable chair like this one they may want to bring it for the show-n-tell inside the garage.

Cyclerob,

Thanks for the reply. I have the oil filter already and I can pick up some oil and plugs before the meet. I don't have an airbox so if anyone else needs the airfilter, feel free to step up.

As far as the chair goes I think your being a little picky. I can't find a blue one that says "WACOM" on it here in Savannah. Are you getting kick backs on each one sold or something? Maybe your just being hard on the "new" guys. I think I remember seeing a picture from one of the Bashes that showed Boxermania lounging in his Pink Power Girls folding chair....what gives?

Roxster, My wording should have been foldable chair "of this type" instead of the "like this one" that I used. That pic was the 1st one I found in the Google result for "foldable chair".

No airbox?? [-X (but that's just me) You'll be able to talk with Boxermania in person about that as he dealt with the tuning modifications needed when you make that mod. You'll have to SPEAK LOUDLY though, as he's lost some of his hearing from riding his bike without the airbox. (just kidding) =D>

Ooops

I see the need to step in since the post is taking a turn for the worst and I need to defend myself......

Rockster, we haven't met personally but I think we have comunicated via email. Not having an airbox makes you an elite member of or club which at the time has a count of two. On another issue, apparently you have me confused with Boxer as I have never lounged in a Pink Power Girls chair.....I could have but they didn't have a size to acomodate by ample posterior and avoirdupois.

Regarding your mount, if you don't haven't done it yet all is needed to change the "character"of your bike is advance the timing 3 degrees and replace the 3 Bar pressure regulator with a 3.5 Bar from the prior gen K bike. Have you done that yet???? Bring it on!!!

Boxer, I thought that Miss Sparky was also coming to visit with her hero.....or have I already been relegated to old shoe status.........did you give her a yard pass for the event?????

CycleRob, you are my hero, but if you think that I'm going to be handing you tools and looking over your shoulder so you don't misplace any parts that would be paramount to owning a submarine with screen doors. :smt041 :smt041

I also understand that Miss Ann is going to serve her famous Lasagna or some sort of Italian fare.....will the hosts be serving Garlic bread and Sangria???? as they are important elements of an Italian dinner.

Humble apologies Boxermania. As we live and play on here in a digital world lacking faces, I confused you with some other chap. How could I ever think that a man with the gumption to remove his airbox could travel with a Pink Power Girls chair strapped to the back.

I followed the life and times of your blue 1150 in the many posts that she appeared in. I knew her so well that I didn't feel it would be fair to respond to your "find the mods" posting. As far as the other mods go, I have added the pressure regulator but have not advanced the ignition yet. I was saving that for CycleRobs garage.
=D>

See you soon.

We now have 12 applicants, and that's too many for one session. Even with 2 or 3 spectators and 9 or 10 students I need to trim it down or the results will suffer.

takemeaway (+ hubby) and azellner can you reschedule for the next session anytime after May 23rd? Y'all can stop by on the 23rd a while if you want to meet the characters (Boxer, Boxermania, Beemeridian and CycleRob) in a rare, still friendly get together. We have been around since this board's beginning. :smt041 :smt026 :-"

DMM and Touchton, You're both very welcome in the next Tech session in/after the last week in May. It should be a smaller group! Hopefully TowerWorker's schedule will allow him to make it. Since Boxer is just 53 miles away, he might just drop by again to say "Hi". As before, the group chooses the date.

Roxster,
Advancing the ignition timing is easy. I ran mine that way for a couple years when I was using Premium gas. It really livens it up and increases the MPG's, but there can be a problem if you make a Bonneville salt flats run in 95deg heat. We'll only use +2 degrees. I later set mine back to TDC (stock) and then stayed with running Regular gas.

The May 23rd group now is:
Boxer
Beemeridian
boxermania
WildBlue
sabertooth
Roxster
Hottech

Boxer's wife Jenny likely will attend and spend time with my wife Ann in the kitchen :smt079
