Internet Fraud .. word of caution

Post by bikermeow »

I've posted this up on another bike forum and I thought that it'll be good to spread the word:

Just want to share my experience with you. I posted ads in IBMWR and in Flea Mart for parts wanted and I received at least 4 replies with claim of parts availability and seeking payment. The emails go like these:

Hello, I am Jeffery Anderson, I saw your Ad that is why I am writing to see if you are still interested in it. Let me know if you are still interested as I will be looking forward to hear from you.
Regards,
Jeffery Anderson

and this ...

Thanks for the mail.I have fairing bracket,Left fork Slider,Upper fork Cross-Brace.I do not have pics of them but its in a good shape.I would be asking a 170GBP for it including postage cost.I can ship via Ups or FedEx which ever you prefer and would accept payment via Western union or Money gram.Whats your shipping address?
Thanks
Kelvin Morgan

and this ...

Am kelvin morgan from the UK.I saw your wanted ADS on the internet and i want to let you know i still have for sale. Please get back to me if interested.
Best regards

... yes, he emailed me twice.

So I did a trace on the IP address of the email addresses and guess what? ...

email; = [email protected]

Your IP Address: 41.204.224.15

IP Continent: Africa
IP Region: Federal Capital Territory
Guessed City: Abuja
IP Latitude: 9.1758
IP Longitude: 7.1808

For good measure I asked them for pics of the parts, and further volunteered to have a friend go eyeball the parts if they do not have the pictures. I am not surprised that there was no response.

Tread carefully out there, guys ....

Cheers

So, this would be the Nigerian Motorcycle Parts Scheme? Seems they're branching out.

I wonder if your fella knows Dr. Christian Patiman, who still owes me 15% of 12 million US dollars.

A while back I was looking for a bike for my friend.
The Nigerian user was telling me that hi is in London    and as soon as he receives the Money Via Western Union, he will be able to send me the bike with 1 month warranty. I even got the pic's of the bike including pic with the VIN number. When I checked the IP address, I knew what I was dealing with. After we agreed on the price I waited for a day and the guy was getting impatient. I did play a little with him and then started with bogus 10 digits number for the Western Union check. #-o #-o #-o
Well. I had fun for a couple of days. =D> =D> =D>

Here are the samples of the numbers: 009-378-2459 or 009-160-7397 :^o :^o :^o
When he comes back to you complaining about bad number, give him the same number but switch last 2 digits.
Do it as much as you can stretch the fun.
Good Luck.
