Fuel Gauge out, again

Fuel gauge went out today, second one and only 2400 miles on the bike. I had the first failure "fixed" last fall, I'm still on the same tank of gas and it went out again. Crud. I disconnected the battery thinking maybe I would re-set it. Nope.

Anyone else? I heard they were having problems but the dealer repared it so i assumed they resolved the problem.

Anyone else??

Not so far, although I notice that my calculated miles stays high for a while, and then starts changing dramatically (falling 'way faster than 1 mile per mile ridden) once I get about 100 miles into the tank...

I read a comment on a K bike site that BMW went back to a "float" type sensor VS the strip on the new K1300's. If this is true it would indicate you're not alone. I always use the trip meter after getting stranded with a bad fuel gauge years ago.

Wait a minute!

I pay a crap load of money for a bike and they can't make the fuel gauge work?!? Crud !! :-X

What are they going to do to "fix" our bike? Wait us out?

I bought a K100 in 84, it had a device that measured the temp of the fuel to turn on the low fuel lights and it worked just like you can imagine. I bought another K in 91 it had a propper float for the fuel gauge, it worked perfect every time. Sometimes I think the Germans try to outsmart themselves.

I have'nt had any issues with the fuel gauge on my R12R yet, it's alittle optimistic on the range at first but then it settles down and is reasonably accurate. It is another device that measures the level with resistance as the fuel drops. The part of the strip above the the fuel is slightly warmer, We'll see if they have learned anything.

I have a Ducati that uses a Thermister to turn on the low fuel light (fuel temp again) and it seems to work ok.
