batt. breakdown

Funny thing happened at starbucks yesterday...my auto shut off MotoLights did not go off, either did my head light. Two hours later I went to leave and nothing not even a click...some fool had left the key in the igition in the "on" position.

Typical logistical gyrations later I returned to my bike and the seen of the crime with two batterys, my charged BMW Battery, and my battert tendered spare Aprillia Falco/Triumph T595 battery a/k/a YUASA YTX14-BS.

Dropped the BMW Battery in and waalaa nothing but a series of clicks. Dropped the YTX14-BS in, and VAAROOOOOOOOM. Rode the bike home, plugged in my battery tender. Started again today Probably going to repalce my repacement battery as Florida winter approched cause the battery is 3 years old, adn just don't want to get caught in Timbukto.

So what have decided here? That some of us would go with a replacement BMW battery, some have used the Westco 12V14-B and some have used the YUASA YTX14-BS while others got theirs at Wal-Mart? Walt mart IS close and convenient? I am beginning to worry about mine as the readings have been a little low when stored off the charger (high 11s) although it always starts and I am going to The Winter Rally in a couple of weeks.
Your advice is always appreciated.

have my tank off at the moment so easy to measure its 150mm x150mm x86mm, sorry if metric is not used in US but thats all we use (p.s its 30c here at 8am- pity its raining too!!)

Is that Metric 8AM or English?

So what is the verdict on batteries? Should I buy from BMW? Or go West Co? It seems like with the price of the ones the BMW folks are providing being double the West Co batteries AND that the BMW batteries seem to be prone to failure.........

Is that Metric 8AM or English?

Sorry didnt know there was a choice!! I guess what is the most common measure in use?

So as my 3 years draws near (my inservice date was oct 2006) on my 2007 R12R, am I playing russian roulette by not proactively changing out the battery, or can it realitically provide more life (without major chanc eof being stranded)?

Although my R12R has been replaced with a K12GT, one of the first things I did was replace the crappy BMW Excide Gel battery with an Odyssey AGM. The GT takes even more amps to crank over than the R12R and many folks on the K bike forums have reported sudden battery failures. Since I have zero interest in being stranded I figure to just be proactive.
