Merry Christmas all,
Just posting for those who like a little more hp. I've been using one of these http://www.powerfrkusa.net/products-pag ... --br12001/ for about a week now and can report that this gives the bike more grunt everywhere. It only takes minutes to install, and works by fudging the intake air temps and adding more fuel.
I was going to go with a PC 3 and then a Rapid Bike module but deliberated because of the small gains and required dyno tuning involved. The Rapid Bike could have been transfered from this bike to another with different harness. PC3 requires o2 sensor removal and although I have bungs to replace them this would void my warranty. So I felt a little stupid for buying something for which there is no known test data, and I'm in Australia so returning the item is expensive, but now I am stoked I went ahead with it. I don't think I'm using that much more fuel but it runs that much harder now it is difficult not to fang it at every opportunity. So increased tire/tyre (depending on where you're from) wear and gas use will be the only after purchase expense. I think that the bike even sounds stronger from idle up, and really rips from around 4500 rpm to redline.
I have the version suited for my remus headers, laser hot cam and Unifilter foam a/f.

Re: Power Module
Let us know when you get some mpg data. It sounds interesting.
You had to remove your o2 sensor with this unit?

Where is that protection that I needed?

Re: Power Module
This looks interesting. I Googled it and it looks like you plug a module in under the tank and it fools the ECM (I hate acronyms) into thinking it's colder than it really is so it richens the mixture. The nice thing is it can be easily removed and you don't have to remap the engine.
I guess if you knew where to put it and knew what value to use a 75 cent resistor wired into the lead from the temperature sensing device would do the same thing, but this is packaged in a module with proper connectors. A lot of money ($300 range) for a slight increase in HP,but a guess that's the price for someone's time and effort and the convience of being able to plug in it.
Keep us informed.

Re: Power Module
A quick report on my bike after a few tanks of fuel. I notice a slight increase in litres/100 klms (Australia) on the OBC, however the tank range appears the same or even a bit more than stock if keeping around or just above (20kph/15mph or so) the speed limits, probably due to increased part throttle power and torque. This enables one to ride at different rpm ranges than before. Instead of cruising at 4500 to 5500rpm the bike is very happy at 3500 to 4500rpm (if you can/want). Roll ons are better too. It feels closer to how the bike should be fueled.
Before adding the unit I rarely used 6th gear finding it useless except maybe down long gradients, or extended high speed runs but ripping through the gears is now more lively and I'm often suprised to find myself in 6th, and it feels ok with less throttle and speed than needed before to make it feel comfortable.
I understand comments like "that's expensive for a couple of resistors and plugs" or "you only get small hp gains", but that's not what it is about that for me. It's about no dyno time and "drivability", and you may not understand without trying my bike before and after. It's just that much more fun to ride. I don't sit on WOT all day everywhere, I don't know how you could. Even idle is better and the sound is stronger too. BTW the weather here is hot and humid, around 100 deg f (38 to 40 deg celcius) and 80 to 95% humidity and it hasn't missed a beat. Also I don't live in the city, so apart from a couple of klms/miles to get out of town it is all highway speed from 80 to 200 klm/hr stuff. But I would imagine good city milage because of better low throttle power/ridability.
What I do realize is how good you could get these bikes to run with a PC3 or rapid bike mapped in. But for $300 this is a big improvement too.

Re: Power Module
Mick - do you know if your bike had received the update fuel software from BMW (came out about June or July I believe..)?mickyt wrote:A quick report on my bike after a few tanks of fuel. The reason I'm asking - most of what you report also resulted on my bike after the fuel software update from BMW.
Just curious..

Re: Power Module
Hi Don,
I did get a download which I understood to alter the knock sensor around that period when the brakeline and ignition ring was also fixed. I have not had any ping since. If the fueling was addressed then it was minimal to the difference I now experience. Perhaps there was another fuel specific upgrade I have yet to receive.
Regards Mick.
