I have been doing a lot of searching and don't find a thread on modifing the R1150R gas tank. I have tested my gas tank on my 2002 R1150R and I have .8 to .9 gallons of gas on the left side that never gets used. I plan on drilling a hole in the left side and installing a blukhead connector making room for a cross over line from the left side to the right side of the tank. I was looking for anyone else that has done this, or if anybody has a better idea?
I saw mention of CycleRob and tank modification but could not find the thread.
I ran out of gas one time and leaned the bike over to let the gas flow to the right side, when I got to the gas station I could only get 4.2 gals of gas in to the tank.
I do a fair amount of LD riding and carry a aux gas tank mounted to the back of the bike for the long trips. But when don't have the aux tank I want access to the rest of the fuel for that little extra millage.

Re: Gas Tank
Is this the mod you were thinking of?

Everytime I fill up, I spend ages trickling the last few drops into my tank - and each time I swear I'm going to do the mod. Maybe this winter I'll find the time.
Cheers

Re: Gas Tank
Does anyone have a picture of the filler neck with the holes drilled. Would like to make sure I am drilling the right part.

Re: Gas Tank
That helps get the tank full but does not let you use the trapped gas in the left side of the tank.
When I install a cross over fuel line I will make sure I take pics and give a report of how it is working for me.
At a motorcycle rally I discussed this with Paul Glaves and he agreed that a cross over line was the only way to use the gas trapped on the left side of the tank.

Re: Gas Tank
I remember reading about one in which a bit of brass tubing was brazed on to connect the L/R lobes. Thought I bookmarked the site but can't seem to find it. Have you checked the archives here and on the IBMR site?

Re: Gas Tank
Recieved this post on another web site and wanted to share it.
Before you start drilling holes read this thread http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2490
I made my own up with tygon line and brass fittings covered with heat shrink. Works well - a hell of an idea!
Picture below is for a GS tank (Heatshrink not installed yet on brass ends to prevent scratching)
Be sure to drill filler neck low enough to allow lid to close.

Re: Gas Tank
Not sure I follow the approach here.
Does the modification wind up bifurcating the line, with a separate hose then inserted into each lobe?
Would this be the same mod on the R as the GS? The fuel pump, float and pickup on the R are accessed via the side plate, no?
Interesting concept if it'll work.
