I generally ride to bone dry empty and put 5.95 gallons into the bike. I fill up while seated on the bike and invariably I fill up until the fuel hits the overflow. When I ride conservatively I get 300 miles to a tank - and the reader says 50 to 51MPG. When I ride agressively I get 240miles and the reader says 40MPG. THis is mostly freeway driving on a daily commute on busy freeways.
When I travel in vehicles' slipstream my milage improves dramatically, but I generally prefer to see what is lurking on the pavement than following too closely.

This is an interesting thread. I just filled up two days ago, the amount was 5.7+ gallons, the gauge said I could have gone another 11 miles. Dunno if I believe that, but that's what it said. Like others it depends on how fast the ride is, but I typically get about 45 mpg, with a high of 57 and a low of 42 so far and I ride a lot of highway miles at whatever the rules of engagement allow. Usually somewhere between 75 and 85 mph. I live and ride at sea level in Florida. That means summer blend gas year round. For those of you who live in Colorado or other high altitude place your mileage will be better all else being equal. For those of you up north, winter blend fuel will result in a slight decrease in fuel economy during the winter season.

My owner's manual says the tank holds 4.8 gallons and I have found if I fill only until the level reaches the bottom of the fill throat (i.e. the red plastic sleeve in the fill port to the tank) that amount is about right. But if I fill the tank up to near the top of the throat, another gallon or so can be squeezed in. I am sure doing this if bad for some breather bits or something, but an extra gallon of gas is mighty nice to have on board.

Regards,

Bill
