Stock Seat Upgrade

Hi all,

I have the stock BMW seat - it's ok, but could be more cushy on longer rides. Thought about going the Sargent route, but before I spend that kinda $ -- any recommendations on a cheaper solution? Seat cover, etc...

Nothing like the Sargent. Worth the money. Went to the ralley and back. 14 year old Daughter never said a word. 1005 miles in 2 days to get home. I have the carbon fiber and I think thats the ticket. NO ass sweating. And it was HOT. 545 milers the most in 1 day. 2004 R1150R . Stock seat SUCKS. BUY the SEARGENT

I just received my Sargent a week ago and what a differfence from the stock seat!!! Worth every penny.

I bought my Sargent used here for $315, so that's an option. I will also tell you that my Airhawk is still in my garage, and probably won't be sold. While the Sargent is a great upgrade, if I know that I will be SuperSlabbing many miles, the Airhawk goes on. Others have found the Sheepskin or Beads work as well as the Airhawk. My recommendation is to go with a seat-cover type to start with, as that is cheaper. If you get a chance, try out a buddy's bike with a custom seat, and see if you think that is worth it.

I use a butt pad made from www.alaskaleather.com. I completed a 5,500 mile tour this summer with an average of 450 miles a day for two weeks. No problems. I was actually quite comfortable. I think the butt pad made a tremendous difference. Very reasonable priced and a nice outfit to buy from.

I will add that the pants you wear make a huge difference when riding long distances. I usually wear my Dainese riding pants and find them very comfortable. When I wear jeans or other pants on long rides, I invariably develop soreness.

I was able to try it 1st. Then ordered it from a E-bay store I think was called parts monster. They sold them around $75 cheaper then getting it form Sargent. But yet I had to wait 3 weeks for sargent to make it. However I havn't seen anything from them in a few years. Watch E bay and BMWMOA fleamarket.

I have both the Airhawk and the Alaska Leather sheepskin Either or both work well for me. I typically use the Airhawk for most day rides, but when on a trip, I put the sheepskin over the Airhawk.

Sargent makes for a nice ride. It's also universal, so if you decide to sell your bike, it will work for most riders.... Unlike a custom seat.

I used a ,cheap, sheepskin pad for a 312 mile motorway/dual carriageway run last Thursday. My rear hurt. I omitted to use it over the next 500 miles, partly because it was raining, and I can not say I noticed any pain. Maybe it is just a matter of getting ones posterior acclimatised to a bit of riding again?
I'm sticking to the standard seat.
