Living at altitude over 6200ft

Post by cmprobert »

I just purchased my first Rockster Ed 80. I bought the bike at sea level, but I live at Tahoe where the altitude is over 6200 ft. Is there anything that needs to be done to the bike?

Your bike should be fine, mine has been at a mile high, along with extended runs @ 6K+. All you have to do is enjoy it.

Chris,

I think you'll be just fine (other than perhaps a need for studded snow tires) at Tahoe. I lived in Reno, then Minden, NV, for many years and revisit those fine Sierra highways (Yuba Pass, oh yeah baby!) every chance I get. The FI on your bike will self-adapt adequately for that elevation. Older bikes that I owned in Nevada were definitely improved by a little carbuerator tuning, FI adapts without fiddling if you're primarily interested in smooth, glitch free power delivery.

Now, if you want more power that's another tune...but could be costly if you want serious improvement.

Have fun on that new ride!

No issues to be expected. I drove mine over a couple of passes in the Alps, including the Selvio Pass (~9048ft). My buddy on his Suzuki SV650s had trouble running idle. My injection system was just doing its job. Have fun around the twisties and please register your details and picture (!) on the "I'm looking for Edition 80 images" thread.
