Argh!!!! I scratched my tank!

The good news, I got my Stebel Nautilus Air Horn installed under my tank - the thing rocks! Bad news - somehow my tank is scratched - looks like it just made it through the clear coat, but not into the paint beneath. Any ideas if there is a way to fix this? Any help will be appreciated. I'm pretty bummed - my first one

I changed out my QD,s to omegas and some how put a scratch in the clear coat just over the red R decal of R1150R. Felt sick about it but covered it up with a decal, out of site out of mind and it looks good too. Find a decal of your choice and cover it up, just depends on the size and location of the scratch. Try a hobby store or google decals. Don't sweat it just ride it.

I have a solution. I am the AZ Territory Manager for a company. We do paint chip and scratch repair serving the new car dealers, mostly their pre-owned cars. So take a trip to the Phoenix area and I'll have my guys do it for you gratis.

Keep in mind what we do is "touch-up" so don't expect it to look like it's been repainted in a body shop. Some of our clients include Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati and Rolls Royce to name a few. But if it's good enough for them we must do pretty good work even if I do say so myself. We worked on a Ferrari F50 the other day, they only want $895,000 for this one.

You could go to a local auto supply store and look for a small container of "auto polish". Folks like 3M and others make it. It's not really a wax but a very fine polish for taking out small surface scratches. Follow the directions carefully and you should be fine.

We all dread the day we find our first scratch. I did on my 03 years ago. I try very diligently to take care of my current 04 but after totaling my 03 and subsequently laying down my 04 (in which it faired much better than I) I no longer lose sleep over each little mark or scratch.
Other things are far more important. I'm not minimizing the importance of properly caring for our bikes, it's just that I have re-arranged my priorities.

I bought the felt tip color and clearcoat pens from these guys. You can get the exact type of factory color, just follow their leads. Works pretty good. But like the post above, it is a repair...but, when well done, only you will know where the repair is.

I dropped an oil cooler cover one time and scratched it. I bought the touch up kit from the dealer, which contains the Atlanta Blue paint and clear coat. The repair looks pretty good.

OTOH, I bought my bike as a dealer demo with 100 miles on it. One person rode it. They dropped it. There is a small dent in my gas tank, so I have learned to live with it from day one. It got me a nice discount on the bike.

So, really, a year from now, this will not be a big deal to you.

Thanks, Guys... I think I will just see if I can live with it for a while to see if my bad feelings about it go away. I feel a little better already.

PhilDinAZ I will take you up on it if I can figure a trip out to Arizona! Just got back from Colorado so not sure its going to be this year!
