Taking a month-long trip out west, have BMW jacket and pants with armor. Want to buy less expensive rain gear to wear over when needed. Any suggestions: what to look for or look out for?

Not sure if you got your fogging situation squared away, meaning your helmet's shield when it's wet out. None of the "magic elixirs" ever helped me much. I am sure it's some personal problem with how much moisture is in my breath, but I was even fogging the shield this morning, and it's pretty dry where I am. However, I can not say enough good stuff for the effectiveness of the Foggy mask

Downsides include some issues with removing your helmet, and the heat goes up inside your helmet. But I could not get the shield to fog during a recent ride through some Bash-like rains.

+1 on Frogg Togs. I used them with my mesh and perfed leather stuff. Cheap, breathe well and work.

Got a pair and within 3 wearings they were leaking through the seams and the shoulder seams were pullin out. Also I didn't find that they breathed well AT ALL, but hey, they did billow a whole lot. I felt like a parachute. It was bad enough that I carried velcro straps to wrap around me.
I would never buy another pair.

What I am using now is a Fieldsheer two piece I bought at a Honda dealership for $65?? I think. It has reflective detailing called Phoslite. It is black with grey trim, but I am drier and cooler in it than I ever was in the frogg toggs. They breathe VERY well and do not billow at all. There are internal cords to customize the fit and it packs as small as the toggs. And it doesn't leak. I've used it 3 times now and each time I am surprised how nice it is.

I got mine from BMW, too. About $99. A bit warm in summer, but dry, and shiny at night.

They are an older version of the BMW Pro Rainsuit. I don't wear it often.

Did you ever find a rain suit? I have a very nice Hein Gericke black XS one piece rain suit I would let you have for $25. It is in excellent condition with miitens and booties.

I use firstgear two piece. cost me about$75 at a rally. has vented holes in the back and velcro for over the zippers. goes over my first gear kilimanjaro suit fine. gives me extra wetness protection for those not so fresh days.
