Thinkin of a paint job
I was thinking of maybe reversing the colors on my rockster. Instead of the flat black and citrus, maybe citrus and flat black?? A guy near me would give me a great price on the paint job. And instead of using decals, the flat black stipes would be painted. Watcha guys think?
Too much citrus???
See, I told you guys, half the time I dont know what I'm talking about.

Sounds good to me. Then you can get this suit to match

Har! I slay me. Seriously, I think it sounds cool. So the wheels would be painted flat black?

Not sure what I'd do with the wheels. Maybe do the bike first, then see if its too much citrus, if so, powdercoat the wheels black

It would definitely stand out in a crowd!
I say go for it. I think it would be cool.

The good thing is....the Rocksters already stand out in a crowd. I'm just afraid it might be a bit "over the top"Tripton wrote:It would definitely stand out in a crowd!

I think you should do it. I've found that if you do custom work on your bike you just love it that much more.
Re: Thinkin of a paint job
I think it would be pretty easy to do. Just paint the whole bike citrus, peel off the decals....and whallah, flat black stripes. I'm starting off slowly, painting bits and pieces citrus (chopped rear fender, rear rack, front engine cover etc...) just to see how it looks. The nice thing is, if it doesnt look the way i want it to.... I've got the original parts set aside in a box. As the parts I'm painting are all extras I've gathered over the past few months. Now if only i can find a set of cheap cylinder covers

Sweet. You can never have too much citrus. Although I like to think of it as acid green, it just sounds better.

Re: Thinkin of a paint job
Rockster needs a repaint?
I'd start with the valve covers and the cover around the headlights. No, not the 'eyebrow' but that funny looking piece of polymer that resembles the business end of an Electrolux vacuum cleaner - that thing that holds the two different sized headlights up.
These are painted or coated blue grey metallic
Headlight surround
valve covers
bits of subframe protuding from under the plastic
fork sliders
This is painted silver
mount headlight surround to forks
All these are either Bronze or Lime
"eyebrow" and
"oil cooler covers (left and right)"
"wheels".
Everything else is black or silver. carbon fibre fender (black goes with everything)
Paint the valve covers - but not just one color. Paint the faux cooling fins by filling in the between 'fin' areas with black. Paint the domed area of the valve cover so that it matches the tank or wheels. The net effect is of a contiguous set of cooling fins from base to top of cylinder. I've got a photo of a not-so-great-but-good-enough-to show-you-what-it-looks-like in another post.
Let's hear about how you'll be spending your money (or time or sweat or some combination thereof) on prep, planning, sanding, primering, painting, and/or power coating.
How about a Black and Yellow scheme. Bumblebee. BMW has used this combination on past GS models. Or maybe a Red and White. Ducati monster style with white wheels. You could probably find a way to reproduce the graphics from the K1200S and use the black/yellow or blue/white combination - modified for your bike. I'd like a paint scheme where the tank 'lines' were used as a guide when choosing the boundaries between the two colors you choose. Panels and seat are further things to spend time, money, and peoples time on.
Let's photoshop it and see how it looks before we start costing out two stage expoxy finishes.
Not that you want to do what these people did - but here's two examples of the sort of customization I'm writing about.

I think it would look good only I think I would leave the wheels alone.

Re: Thinkin of a paint job
It is all a matter of taste, surely the Rockster looks immaculate as it is but reversing the colours may make it look a bit more kawasaki ninja -ish....
Go for it thought, it is going to be SO unique...

Re: Thinkin of a paint job
I was also thinkin it might look kinda kawasaki-ish
. Think I'm gonna paint all the plastic first ( I have extras of pretty much everything except the tank), see how that looks, if I like it, I'll probably bite the bullet and do the tank too. Does anyone have a computer program that could show what the bike would look like with the colors reversed (photoshop etc). ??

Re: Thinkin of a paint job
Sounds a lot like the 80th Anniversary, in green..
Re: Thinkin of a paint job
Got a few pieces painted up, rear rack, little cover on right side over the fuel connects, front alternator cover. Looks pretty sweet so far, I'll get some pics up tonight
