extending pegs and pedals - good idea?

Post by joyonroy »

I'm a big guy, 6 ft 4 in, 36 in inseam, so even with the BMW high seat, my R1150R is not that big. I'm planning some more extended rides and thinking of getting extensions for the pegs, shift lever and brake pedal to help me position my feet a little further out from the bike, for ride comfort.

Any advice on those mods, and good parts to use? I'm thinking even 1 inch would help some...

I just put Suburbans peg lowering kit on mine. Very well built.

Great people give them a call. I went to see them a week ago and bought the lowering kit.
Did not buy the shifter extension. Not an issue for me.

Helps my bum knees.

Yes I've seen those online, but was concerned that lowering the pegs, shift lever and brake pedal would affect cornering / banking. That's the reason I was looking to extend the pegs / pedals out / away from bike in the left/right sense, but not in the up/down sense.

What do you think?

I have the high seat and lower pegs, and I found that the peg feelers would touch sooner--even in town. My solution was to install a torque arm from a GS model to restore the peg height from the pavement. It does raise the seat height, but that wouldn't be a problem for you. It also quickens the steering a little bit, but I haven't really noticed a big difference.

I figure this: I believe the R1150R has a maximum lean angle of roughly 45 degrees. At that angle, moving the pegs an inch down or an inch out is going to have roughly the same effect on lean angle.

I'm fairly tall as well. On longer rides, I'll put my feet out on the crash bars (Hepco and Becker) for a few minutes to stretch. I've heard of people here putting their legs on the cylinder heads directly, just watch out for the exhaust pipe!

There's various highway pegs available as well, which would be better than the cylinder head method:
