R1150R Year differences (newbie)

Post by jclanin »

Hi all!

I'm considering an R1150R -- Looking at a nice 2002. What are the differences by year of the R1150R? And... what is different about the Rockster?

Many thanks!

In a simplistic way the Rockster didn't come out until 04' and outside the paint, the front light and the front suspension it is basically an R model. I see that you are looking at an 02', you don't indicate your country of origen but I would caution you to check any early R well, as some of them 02' to 04' had $$ issues with the tranny input shaft.

See the postings on the R1150R thread. I wouldn't want you to buy into a troubled bike.....good luck and post some pics when you get your ride.

The year Rockster came seems to vary, mine is 2003, and is bought in Sweden! Or does BMW change model year at summer?

2003 to 2004 all 1150 engines had double ignition, look at the cylinder heads for the difference! The double ignition made the engine go smoother and use less fuel, but didn't give any more power.

Rockster is the model the double ignition was launched on, and is only available with double ignition!
