Almost here....

Post by eisen »

So, I went to visit my bike this morning.
I am only waiting for the original GPS holder and road licence.
She'll be ready for me tomorrow morning!

A friend took this picture from his mobile while i was checking her out (still have not decided on a name...)

Anyway, here she is:

:smt038 The :smt023 Stripes =D> Rule!

You're a much more patient man that I, there's no way I could sit on my new bike without taking it for a ride !!!!

Your bags are different that mine, no reflector, and.... something else.. Is that some kind of guard towards the front/bottom?

I'm not sure if the Euro spec bikes differ from those across the pond.
Anyway, i will take some more detailed pictures over the weekend & post them on this thread.

The chassis for the sport screen did not arrive today - so i was given the "touring" screen instead. Not bad, but i think i'll prefer the sport one.
Same goes for the GPS holder...but it is scheduled to arrive next week.

It was REALLY hard resisting the urge to take the bike out today. Thats why i did not take along any gear (ATGATT :!: )
I'll just wait patiently 'til tomorrow morning... :D

I believe only the US market require reflectors, so there's the first difference. But you can buy those BMW emblems if you so desire.
Secondly, the lower protectors are extra and also available on this side of the pond.

Hopefully the link will work: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=46&fg=20

This is the RT (painted bags) protector strip. It's easier to see on panniers colour-matched to the fastest ( ... and most chic) colour:

Oh, yeah ... cheap they ain't ... but I liked the look as well as the protection.

Thanks for the info.
Both mine are already fairly "worn in", so I doubt I'll buy them...
I just think they look sharp, and should work well. :)

I like my color scheme (silver), but your black with the stripe is stunning.

550km trip...

Post by eisen »

So - the bike arrived.....

I had a busy weekend, but the S/O & I still managed to squeeze in a 550km trip to the North of Israel. I just had to see the borders covered in snow.

The R12R is a fantastically well balanced bike.
Full of character, easy to enjoy, comfortable & most importantly - every KM was done with a smile.
The traction control worked its magic during some of our more "uncomfortable" moments and the tyre pressure monitor performed perfectly as well.
We rode in temps ranging from 20 degrees celcius (near Tel Aviv) to -3 near the mountains. It may not sound too extreme for some of you, but to experience those ranges here in Israel is unusual and quite harsh on the body.

Here are a few pics...

Filling up with gas & getting ready for the trip:

Yes, it was FREEZING out there (and yes...i DID share my hot chocolate!!)

Conti attacks were great, even on slippery roads:

Nice view:

Back home after a quick rinse + enjoying the warm sun:

Grip puppies (as shown in the picture below) are HIGHLY effective.
They made the trip SOOO much more comfortable.
I bought mine from: http://www.casporttouring.com/store/mer ... =Hand-Cont

My next report will be on the airhawk and Alaska sheepskin + the ztechnik windshield.

All the best,

E

Congrats! Glad you like it, there's not much to dislike is there?...
How long until your buddy with the K migrates over?

Looks like you got rid of most of the chicken stripes on the maiden voyage, and had a nice trip. :smt023

I managed to ride the R pretty hard, but not quite low enough to scrape anything.
Still, with a passenger (and a VERY important one at that!) I had to show some restraint. Next time = solo and no luggage 8)

My riding buddy with the LT....BOTH him and I are mad about our LT's.
There is no better touring bike out there.
The ONLY way he will ever part with his is IF the new model LT passes his scrutiny. And that guy can scrutinise. ALOT!!!
But give him an 6 Elvis CD's and he'll ride to the moon & back

Now with the R i have found the perfect stable-mate.

Hello Eisen, congratulations on the new bike :D In the UK the roads are too salty at the moment for riding my new R12, and I've had it since early December  Anyway, planning to have 3 days at Scottish Borders over Easter and get it run in so I need some luggage..... Is that the genuine BMW top case you have on your bike?

Scotland should be a stunning place to drive. Just make sure you carry ALL your wet weather gear!
I drove from London to Ireland a few years ago and once you enter the welsh roads - you are in driving heaven. Soooo nice to leave London behind.

The top case is a genuine 28L BMW case with the optional cushion for the passenger.
My girlfriend rode with me for 10 hours on Saturday with NO complaints (and that is a huge compliment for the R, as she is used to the comfort of the LT)

Enjoy your trip & ride safe.
