Bolt Kit for BMW Touring Windshield?

Hi!

So, one of the 6mm (I think, taken from an earlier thread) bolts on my BMW touring windshield has... dissappeared. I think I deposited it somwhere along the highway when I was bundled up on my holiday run. (If you guys in Nevada and southern Utah see it, could you mail it to me?)

I have a 2005 R1150R with the BMW touring windhield (it matches the appearance of the picture of the BMW touring, as opposed to sport, shield from an earlier discussion in here).

My question is this: I ran over to the local dealer and they took a quick look and "found" me a bolt that they thought would work. But it is just a bit too short. When I called back, they weren't able to locate a part number for the specific replacement. (Yet, I should add...my fault, really, caught them at the end of the day.)

So, anyone know of the characteristics/part number I am looking for in this bolt? And, forgive what may be a naive question, but is this bolt something that I should ensure a direct replacement of with a BMW replacement, or can one buy a bolt with similiar characteristics from an alternate supplier? Is the BMW bolt of a specialized thread pitch, etc, or..... If nothing else, I woud like to find a bolt that could fill in short term until I can get the replacement ordered.

I left one of mine somewhere between Lima OH and Albany NY on the way back from the national in 05. I got a replacement in stainless from the local Ace hardware store. It was also about 5mm longer than the stock one (40mm vs 35mm). I put some blue locktite on it and have not had any more problems in the 2 1/2 riding seasons since I replaced it. As a added bonus the longer one grabs more threads than the kit one and will hold better as well.

My 03 fell over several years ago and the resulting impact jarred the touring shield enough to where it popped (stripped) the oem bolt out of the triple clamp. That upper triple clamp is near $500 if you have to replace it. The stock bolt that comes with the shield is just too short as the threaded hole in the upper clamp will accommodate a much longer bolt hence using the 40mm. Using the loc-tite is a good idea too.

A good hardware will have them and for that matter my local Lowes Building Supply now has stuff like that too.

I converted mine to a regular hex-head bolt (stainless at the local nuts and bolts store) and it greatly decreased the amount of cussing in the garage when the windshield is changed.

I am eyeballing one of those new pivoting box wenches to use, which should make the job even easier!

Lowe's stock them as well, I could not find them at Home Depot.

I have got a similar problem. I have the smoked sport shield on mine and I am missing not only one of the fasteners but the crown washer and the wellnut that fits inside the bracket.
The local dealer has yet to find a replacement.
It seems that the sport shield doesn't show up in any expanded micro fiche.
Ideas? Thanks.

Same mounts and hardware as the touring shield. Only difference is the size of the shield. The little speedster shield has different hardware and mounts.
