GPS Mount
I took my bike out for a ride yesterday stayed toasty at 45 with the new GS handguards and the heated grips on low. I guess I do more putting and lugging around than I ought to but on several semi straight aways I was riding at 5500 rpm and goosed it. As the needle hit 6000 or maybe 6200 it was just like the magazine said "Like adding another cylinder" or in my words like turning on the turbo.
Redline before I knew it. Me making rocket whooshing noises in my helmet and going faster than I needed to on that particular road. Anyway it was about as much fun as a man my age can have.
I like this bike better than any I have ever owned. I just added my wife's new passenger footpeg extenders so she will be happier next time she rides.
I got a Garmin GPSMAP 276C and am wondering how I will mount it. Anyone with any suggestions or better yet pictures?
Merry Christmas guys!

Garmin has a handle bar mount (about 20 bucks) for the 76 series. There's a small mount that will fit the handle bars, then there is a new back plate for the unit that dove tails into the mount.
I use one for my Garmin GPSMap 60CSx. Works like a charm. Easy on/off. I've mounted mine on the left end of the handle bar, as near as possible to the grip/mirror etc.
I use mine more to give me the real speed, and to build a track log of where I've been. I've got a fairly complete record of my wanderings from this last summer.

Edit:
Prairie Geomatics down the page for examples of Handle bar mount and Rail mount (but you need the battery compartment replacement with the dovetail on it).

Ram Mounts
Click on the 276C model number for a number of different options. Instead of the handlebar ball mount that I use for the Nuvi 360, they also have a number of balls with studs that may well fit as replacement bolts in a couple of locations.

The Ram mounts are each attached by two u-bolts clamped to the bars. If you need specific photos of the mounts themselves, let me know and I will get some for you.

I didn't like the idea of clamping u-bolts to my handlebars (not very secure and it damages the paint). I bought a black aluminum adapter from Techmount that attaches to the clutch lever mounting screws. I then screwed a RAM ball into the Techmount part.
I also prefer mounting my GPS left-of-center on the bike. It's out of the primary field-of-view, doesn't block the view of any of the bike's instruments, and the controls are easier to reach with my left hand.

I also am not a fan of adding clamps to the bars, but I'm also a fan OF having the GPS front-center-minimum eye movement from the road:

Made my own mount - goes on the BMW Touring Shield mount. More details on it will be in an article in the BMW-MOA Owners News.. I had previously tried one over the clutch housing on my RS - required too much attention to use, and distraction from my primary goal of staying upright. Also tried the BMW R1200R mount - which goes above the bar-clamps. Central location was OK, but still a bit distracting to look at - what wasn't OK was it interferred with any tankbag I tried, including BMWs.
This idea came to me after looking at a friends R1200GS-Adventure GPS mount.. This photo is with the CeeBailey 18" screen.

Ooops! Apologies!
I goofed up, mixed the GPSMAP 276C with the 76C. Two totally different animals. That 276C looks fabulous, and somewhat larger than the 76 family!
I'll leave the mounting stuff to the folks that have done it!
Have fun with it and enjoy the Holidays!

512; you can put a lot of stuff on there without having to carry the laptop to upload maps.celticus wrote:Thanks Guys, I'll have a month or so to get it mounted the way I want it. How much flash memory (card size I.E.512, 256, 128 )do you use?

I have the smaller ones, but usually use them to load specific trips I fly out to rather than drive.

Those are part of the BMW GPS mounting kit. Don't know if they can be ordered seperately.NeilS wrote:Don,
Looking at your picture, it seems like you changed the handlebar clamp bolts to something non-stock. Maybe with a 5 mm or 6 mm female thread. What are they and where did you get them?
TIA.
