Rockster Custom Paint

Post by jeffbowman »

I've seen a bit about de-striping Rocksters in various threads but would like to see where others have gone beyond ...

I picked up my standard Halloween package (see black/orange pic) ‘04 Rockster in April of ’06 with about 1,600mi on it. I’ve added another 13,000mi across 11 states so far and pimped it dark metallic blue on black (rims, head covers, exhaust, bars, back rack, everything).

The exhaust & charcoal cans are off, Stanton head guards, barback/riser, Metzler Z6’s, Sargent saddle, throttle lock, Wunderlich screen and full size left case for the long treks.

Let's see what ya got (especially in the paint department)!

Nice job! And I really like how you blacked-out the headers!

I de-stickered my Rockster, painted the instrument cover & oil cooler covers flat black to match the tank and got the wheels powder coated gloss black. I also installed a Remus cabon fiber exhaust can with their y-pipe and got rid of those Mickey Mouse mirrors, replacing the left side only with a CRG bar-end mirror.

I'm seriously thinking about a Sargent seat and modifying the handlebars (see below), as Bob's BMW did with their Rockster version, the Bobster.

Good adds. I think I'm going to go back and powder coat the wheels flat black. Did they sand blast them down to metal and then finish them? How much did that run you? An autobody shop?

I like the mirror idea, but I get out on a lot of long rides and Mickey's ears provide some good visibility. The bar ends do look sharp ...

The Sargent isn't as visually appealing as I'd like (not as sleek as stock even), but my a$$ sure does appreciate it on the long hauls!

Cheers

jeff,

that looks sweet! :D
i just acquired a citrus rockster last week. my tank and rear panels didn't come with any stripes so i'm halfway there on de-striping. i like how your black wheels looks with the blue. the blacked out instrument side covers (or whatever they're called) and everything else looks bad-ass. nice work!
BTW, where did you get the side tank protectors...that's a nice touch.

how do you like the wunderlich shield? i'm definitely getting one. kind of pricey but it seems to be the nicest looking one i've seen so far.

i'm not really into the citrus flavor, so i'm thinking about changing the wheels and instrument cover to match the blue from the headlight housing.

Thanks!

The tank itself is two colors. The black part is actually the old flat black color that was already there. The dark blue metallic was taped off and painted as a pattern on top.

I'm a big fan of the Wunderlich shield. I researched for a few weeks and didn't find anything else that "fit" the look to me. The Wunderlich shield looks like it could've come factory with the bike and doesn't take too much away from the hooligan look. I might add, I've had it off for the last 9mos and I miss it badly on the long highway hauls!

The Stanton cylinder head guards are also tops, but I'm not sure they're still making them.

Good luck and post some pics!

Jeff

Looks really nice.
I like the ferro blue and that looks pretty close.
I am not sure why every one wants the stripes off the Rockster.
The flat black looks way too plain IMO.
