Keys, tool kit, etc...WHAT COMES WITH A BRAND NEW BIKE

Post by 8b »

What exacty comes with these bikes new from the dealer: (not talking options/standard features), I mean: How many keys (2 different types of keys?)? (Should there be a tag with a key re-order code), Owners manual, service manual, tool kit (containing what?), etc. etc. Thanks!

I am not at home right now to check but I believe that there is a little metal tag attached to the spare plastic key with a reorder code. Also, in the key area the dealer can order a spare using the last 6 or so characters from your VIN. Should you desire a spare metal key, get your feet set for a $65.00 enema.

In the paperwork mess that I recieved there was a temporary card for the BMW roadside service deal. I have heard rumors of a new owners welcome package that contains some other little trinkets that BMW will mail you. I cannot tell you what the contents are as I have yet to receive mine. My dealers told me he has seen folks get the package in as little as 2 weeks or as long as 7 months. I am somewhere around 6 weeks at this point.

I ordered a second metal key with the bike (thanks to this board, I knew I'd only get one, plus the plastic one) .. and the dealer more or less threw it into the deal.

I also got the optional tool kit: a bit miffed that I now have to carry BOTH - would've thought the pouch for the bigger kit would take the items from the wee one ...
