I own a 2006 R1200GS. I just love that bike. It amazes me all the time but specially when I try other bikes. Recently, I was at my dealership and saw a demo R1200R. This one is a black beauty. I took it for a ride. This is a hoot to ride. Tons of fun. I think it would be a good city bike. My GS is all farkled up for touring and find it a bit busy for just city riding. I was thinking of a Ducati, maybe a Monster. Now I think the R1200R could be better than the Duc. I felt the R and the GS are different enough to sit side by side in the same garage. Luckily, I can afford to keep both. Anyone has any thoughts on how these bikes may be either complementary or similar?
Thanks

I had a '05 GS. Sold it due to medical reasons which have been fixed. When it came time for me to put another BMW in the garage (which I did tonight), I knew it would be a R. As nice as the GS was (is), I don't do enough off-road riding to justify the dual sport character of the bike.
I think I'm going to be very happy with this R.. oh, yeah,.. am I ever..

The R1200R is a perfect city bike that can also tour - though you might want to change a few things if you do (like seat/screen/pegs).
If you can afford to keeep the GS then the R1200R is a great city bike (I ride mine to work every day) and great fun in the twisties!
However, in your position (being able to keep the GS and therefore buy a second bike) I'd also take the R1200S out for a test ride!
