K1200RS mirrors
Spent a while debating this mod to my Rockster, but got the bug one day, after having gone almost a year with no mods/upgrades to the bike. Ordered the K1200RS mirrors from Chicago BMW, along with a few other parts, took about 4 weeks as they were backordered to Germany. Anyway, the end result was simple to install, took a sharpie and marked the mounting bracket, stuck in between 2 pieces of soft rubber lightly in a vise, then spent about 20 minutes with the Dremel with a metal cutting bit. Dramatic improvement in looks, actually views a tad wider, but at speed they seem to vibrate less for a better rear view. All in all, well worth the money.

I did mine also, not because they look better, which they do, but because I had numerous times on the freeway, when a cage would be in my blind spot, and damn near run me over when I wanted to switch lanes. The K mirrors have a much better view to the sides. Safety first........... The stock mirrors should be against the law, they just don't work well.

If you bought the mirrors new from a BMW dealer, they should replace them. Had the same issue with these mirrors on an R1150R I owned and the dealer replaced them under warranty even though I did not buy them from him....they came from a K12 that I traded on the r1150r which I bought from him.
better on 1150R
These mirrors actually work better on the 1150R then on the K12RS. On the K12 you need to move your head and your arm to get a clear and complete rear view. The K12RS really needs fairing mounted mirrors. That's not a cheap mod on that bike.

I also purchased the K RS mirrors a couple of years back. They seemed to be more affected by vibration than the original lollipop mirriors. Maybe they were better suited for the 4cyl bike they were designed for? Anyhow, the right side glass came loose after a month so I sent them back for a refund.
I saw these godforsaken ugly Italian things in the Wunderlich catalog and ordered them. They stick out way past my elbows, with the outer 25% of the glass being convex. After 2 years, I'm happy with them.

Jamie,
If I recall correctly, these mirrors stuck out slightly further and higher than the K12RS mirrors. I measured my mirrors tonight, and here's what I got:
Each mirror sticks out about 3 inches past the tip of the bar end. Yup, you gotta pay attention when maneuvering around all of your other toys in the garage. I got over this very quickly.
Each mirror measures about 9 inches above the bar end weight at the highest point of the mirror.
Hope this helps.

Anthony,
Thanks for the measurements. I'll make a comparison with my K12 mirrors. I really would like some better rear viewing than the stock bar mounted K12RS mirrors. The fairing mounted mirror modification I have seen on other K12RS' is nice but very pricey. I know the mirrors you added are cheap also. Thanks again.
