Service II Roundup

Hi All, I am a newb when it comes to servicing the R1100R, but will soon be rectifying that. Normally I have my mechanic do all of my services. Lately I seem to be more endowed with time than bike funds. So its time to dig in! So the service II involves the following procedures (plus more) that I h...

I had some cupping when my set of z4s were wearing. It made it hard to put the bike into a turn. I am on my second set of z6s and found them to wear more evenly. I can't recall if the z4s felt any better or not. I'm happy with the sixes though.

The last set ran 7.5k. javascript:emoticon('')

>>>Your description of the problem sounds typical gearbox to clutch splines giving up their ghost. The bike will need a new clutch and a new input shaft installed in the gearbox. I got the same diagnosis from the mechanic. Cost to rebuild (clutch shaft & berings) and install is $2700. The parale...

Transient Tranny...

Yes, fortuantely I do have a non-dealer nearby who is an Ace mecanic. He is not cheap however. If we have to go deep into this thing and replace all those parts, I'm going to ask if we can put in a more modern transmission. The beemer boneyard has a six speed R1100S tranny. Anyone know if that would...

Transient Tranny...

The R11R transmission gave way this afternoon in the twisties high up in the hills. javascript:emoticon('') I was riding along, just getting into the ride and feeling loose. Then it happened. During a shift (up or down?), I thought I hit a false neutral. After fishing through the gears, none ...

A-tonal Apples & Amplified Heat

Just got back from a ride. Even thought it's about 50 degrees, I have that overall cold feeling. Time to order some electrics! Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going the Aerostitch rout.

A-tonal Apples & Amplified Heat

>I use the Aerostitch vest and it works well. The only feature I have some doubt about is the collar. It is "wired" so you get heat to your neck, but at the same time it adds bulk in the neck area that makes it more difficult to turn your head. Huffergassen, do you have the Aerostitch with...

A-tonal Apples & Amplified Heat

Hi everyone, I have a few holiday gift checks to liquidate and am considering some sort of electric vest or other technology to keep warm. 1150R highway pegs

I'll sometimes sit on the passenger seat to stretch the legs out, but nothing beats standing up on the pegs if you're really feelin' the rickets!

Extended Warranty - Experiences??

Max BMW has an excellent reputation as a full service dealer. He has contributed to the BMW community in many ways, particularly by sponsoring ride events, and support for the riders. If you join the Yankee Beemers, you'll find a lot of riders there who swear by them. hint hint javascript:emoticon('...

I have found two fingers covering the front brake when riding the twisties to be helpful with throttle control. Having the two fingers on the lever gives a positive reference point for subtle throttle inputs. This has helped my smoothness and overall control. Clutching, I use all four and grab just ...

Shocks

I noticed my shocks were toast this summer after a lot of two up riding and having to continually add pre-load to the rear. I started to feel the bike taking bumps not so gracefully. It felt downright squirmy! My mechanic also noticed my steering damper was blown. So I took the plunge with Wilbers s...

ABS & Lean Angle

Ahhhh, yes of coarse. ABS cannot help in a corner skid because the direction of the forces breaking the tire's traction is sideways, not forward. Thanks for clearing that up Paul.

Anyone replaced the catalytic converter with straight Y-pipe

I hear that! Those filth belching trucks are not much fun to get behind. I enjoy riding with fellow BMW riders in small groups on occasion as they are cleaner burning than many bikes. My buddy's Road King with the chopped exhaust practiaclly pours unburned fuel out the pipes making it miserable to r...

ABS & Lean Angle

I was just talking with some folks about ABS on motorcycles. There was a statment put forth that ABS aspect of the brakes do no work when the bike is leaning (in a turn), meaning that they are only helpful when doing an upright quick stop. Does anyone have any information on this? I would speculate ...
