Re: ... where's the R850R forum?

Nice bike. Mine is almost identical, but it's a 1997. Go over to the R1100R forum and tell us all about it. I removed the R850R stickers from mine and now no one knows it's not an 1100 ;)

Re: Best Replacement Battery?

10 years? I wouldn't complain. I had a BMW gel that only lasted about 5 yrs then fried a no-name AGM battery in one season because the posts were weird and I couldn't get the cables clamped tight. So I don't have any recommendations other than a lot of folks seems to like Odyssey. To swap the batter...

Re: What kind of cage does an R rider drive?

I'll repost mine, since i think it's in there already. 2002 Subaru WRX. 153k miles, no issues. Knock on wood. Same here, but mine has only 80K. How did you get so many miles on yours? I only put gas in mine once or twice all summer. It's sooo much fun in the snow though, with a set of Hakka RSi's :...

Re: Fuel pump doesn't cycle

I was talking about the tachometer, Most fuel injected bikes the tach needle does a sweep as the key is turned on. I can't remember if beemers do this. I think Oliver pretty much answered your question already, but I know what you're talking about and there is no needle sweep. Not on my '97 anyway....

Re: 1997 R850R questions

samaaron, I just realized you've posted the same question in 3 different forums over the past week. You've received a lot of feedback already and probably noticed there are a lot of ideas/opinions out there. In the end you're going to have to make your own decision. Decide how much you want to spend...

Re: 1997 R850R questions

Rust? where? There's not a whole lot of steel on the bike other than the tank. Does it come with system cases? When you say "entry level" are you talking about price or power/weight? The 850 weighs the same as the 1100 so it's not necessarily any better for beginners. An 850 will definitel...

Re: Looking at a 2004 R1150R and 1997 R850R

Samaaron - really excited for you! I don't think you can go wrong with any bike that you're comfortable on and is affordable and in decent shape. Just remember two things - the nicer the bike the more likely you will dump it and whatever you choose first you will eventually want another. You know, s...

Wow - looks so empty under there where the cat used to be. Must be quite a bit lighter, too? Okay. Now when the sun comes up, how about a couple more? Leaned over for comparison - like this: http://grovelandclinical.com/DCTC/DCTC-Images/4.jpg and then like this: http://grovelandclinical.com/DCTC/DCT...

Re: Introduction/R1150R Ergonomics Questions

Once when I washed my Darien pants with Nikwax they came out really slippery and someone suggested I get some kind of horse saddle spray that makes the seat slightly tacky. I never bought any, but instead went the primitive route and rubbed some pine pitch on my seat :p But I don't have a nice Corbi...

Re: Anybody else waiting for the Palm Pre?

I love my (unlocked) Centro and won't be switching for awhile because I prefer to not be under contract with my carrier. Although I am excited about the Pre! Love the direction that Palm is going. Hardware-wise, I'm not a fan of sliders but it looks to be less clunky than the G1.

Re: Riding in the rain

Here's a thumb squeegee for ya. The issues are primarily visibility, traction and comfort. You will get wet in an all-day rain even with rain gear - whether it's through your boots, gloves or down your neck. Then there's the potential to get very cold. Do you have heated gear? Roads will be slick - ...

Re: Riding in the rain

Lots of potential issues riding in the rain, but as far as visibility goes I've had more problems with fogging than the actual raindrops. I'd recommend a Fog City or ProGrip insert although there are other options, like the Respro mask. My gloves have a thumb squeegee built in which is another nice ...

Re: Reflective Gear

Dang. Good advice, but pretty scary that she defaults to the idea that we should wear reflective gear instead of thinking maybe she (and others) shouldn't be operating a 3000+ lb projectile if they don't see very well. It must be just as difficult to see pedestrians and cyclists.

For all of you experienced users out there, how hot are they in the summer?
They are pretty hot, but wearing appropriate socks makes all the difference. I like these in the crew length for summer.
