Rubber wire wrap (housing) falling apart
Hello All, The black wrapping that covers and bands all the wires together from the dingle pit is starting to crack and fall apart. Anyone else dealt with this issue? and what are some good strategies, albeit, simple ones, to fix it. Otherwise, I would have to rewire the whole wiring harness just to...

valve clicking or engine knocking too loud?
Just had 6k service on my 2002 r1150r. The bike has 55k miles. Before the service it seemed the normal clicking sound from the engine valves (i think) seemed to become louder. I thought the 6k service might tighten things up, but it was the same. I'm not sure if the loud clicking was always there be...

GPS: To wire or not to wire... that is the question.
Been using paper maps forever... Love the plotting, Love the unknown. Don't love finding the right hotel when I'm tired, don't love wondering where the next gas station is in the middle of nowhere. Plus, I would love to know if there may be a nicer ride just over yonder and what the best detour is i...

Re: Garmin Zumo 660 Installed (w/photos)
That's real nice. 660 is a bit too pricey for me and my uses. Thinking of going with the Nuvi 550 and keeping it on battery power.
Nicely done!

Re: Starting problem....
Thanks for the info... I am running on 20/50 and I'm not sure when the last time the battery was changed, but the plugs are fresh. I've had it serviced 4 times since last march, one 12k, one annual, oil change, and some service when in NYC. I'm sure i'v had fresh plugs put in in at least 2 of those ...

Re: Different Seats? Heated Seats?
I have a sargent on my 2002. LOVE IT. 13 hour day rides back to back - could have gone longer but everything else fatigued besides my seat and legs!

Starting problem....
Hello All, 2002 r1150r, 47k. Dakar/Ferro The starting is a bit dodgy, especially on cold mornings. Here are the particulars: 1) on very cold mornings (40 and below) the bike will not start. The sound of the starter will go from a wash out sound, similar to pressing the starter while the engines on, ...

Best Cold Gear
Hello All, It's been a while since my last post. Hope you are all well and riding safe. Here's my need: Planning a mid spring trip, Late April, from Charleston SC to NYC & Upstate NY. I know it may possible be very cold, especially in the Blue Ridge area. My questions is... what is the best heat...

Re: oil leak in airbox?? assistance needed!
Giving y'all an update: 1) dealer listened to me, drained a little oil, and guess what? No more leak. They were filled with so much hubris, that there was no way they put too much oil in the bike and that they problem lay elsewhere, albeit an expensive elsewhere - needing many hours of labor to asce...

Re: Sargent Seats?
Rode 2, 13 hour days back to back on my sargent on route to NYC from Charleston SC. They could have easily been 20 hour days if my hands and wrists didn't get sore. The seat is excellent for my 31'' inseam and my wife loves the removable back rest. I did a similar trip on a f650 GS, stock seat... ou...

Re: oil leak in airbox?? assistance needed!
Thank for all your helpful responses. Have you ever opened it? Do you have any idea how much oil is in there? Actually took the plug out, and very little oil in box. I could wipe away with bandana. The plug seems to work very much like the oil filler cap - 2 positions, so tightening beyond the close...

Re: oil leak in airbox?? assistance needed!
oil comes from a valve at the top right side of the engine via a rubber pipe going over to the bottom of the airbox. Excess oil is blown out through that vent. The vent is on the left side though - is that still applicable to what you are talking about? I hope you're right. Just talked to the deale...

Hello to all, This is my first post, but have been reading the board for some time. These are the particulars: I have 02 r1150r, yellow dakar, 44k. I am posting in NYC but live in Charleston SC. Came to NYC for business, rode the bike here to make it pleasure. Took it to BMW Manhattan for oil change...

Re: Just got my first BMW!
Well done. I too just bought my first R1150R (3rd BMW), around the same price, a few extra farkles, but about 30k more miles! Good thing it's a BMW, I know it will last.
Where in SC, I'm in Charleston.
