Finally got the JC whitney topcase installed on the Hepco Becker rack. The only advice I have is to properly shim the mounting plate, because it is made of stamped sheet metal and the stress placed on it by the screws can easily bend the plate. I bent the plate and the pins on it wouldn't line up pr...

Is a hugger anything like a bugger? If so, I'd definitely recommend against it.

johnnyjs, my wife's RR doesn't have the BMW luggage rack. She has the system cases, so I am hooking up the HB mount to the passenger grab rails, and poorly fabbing stuff (but having fun :D ). I call this eyeball engineering. This'll turn out better than I thought. I am using the JCW mounting rails, ...

I have started the JC Whitney top case mounting debacle. I am using the hepco becker topcase mount. I am not a mechanical/fabricating genius, but I'll have this done by tomorrow, and I'll post some pics. It'll be a bit rough, but I think the end product won't offend too much.

I just bought a JC Whitney topcase, and snagged a Hepco Becker mount off of Ebay. I will post pics when the job is done. However, I procrastinate alot so I can't promise anything timely.

Just funnin' ya, because there's too much salt on the roads here to ride.

Seriously, a full tank also minimizes the amount of water that could condense in your tank, preventing rust and/or poor running.

Winter storage often necessitates that you repack your muffler bearings with a high quality grease.

For about $25 you can get electropods from JC Whitney, for your flashy LED brake light thingies.

Here they are in action on my wife's bike.

You now have $75 left over for other stuff.

Please post pics of that trip... please! I have Edelweiss Envy! :) I can't wait. We're doing the ultimate Alps tour. It's a once in a lifetime thing. I've been to that region of Europe a number of times, since most of my family still lives there, but never on a motorcycle. Well there was that one t...

Noticed my wife's R1150R do the blue smoke puff thing a few times. Glad to hear that they all do that. My immediate thought was bad valve guides, but the explanations given here are more than satisfactory.

Could this be part of the natural oil comsumption propensity for some oilheads?

I can live with 8oz/1000miles, and hopefully it will decrease in time. At least it's gotten my wife in the habit of checking the oil. Her previous bike, an EX500 used no oil between changes. Fill it and forget it. So far she's really liked the R1150R, but has her eye on a Wee-Strom. I think she'll m...

Boxer, I hear you, but one shouldn't tempt fate. Downpours are not the same as a high pressure/volume stream directed at a component that can really get buggered up with water. Like all things YMMV.

Thanks for the assurances and advice. We always travel with extra oil, and I've trained my wife to check the oil at least every other fuel stop. My Buells seem to like oil as well, and the consenus is that they decrease or level off their usage in time too.

2002 R1150R Oil Usage.

Here's a loaded question. What is the normal rate of consumption on an R1150R. It's got about 10k miles, and I notice that we top it off quite often. Been using Mobil1 red cap 15W50. It's not unheard of that we are adding about 1/2 quart every thousand miles or so. I am familiar with the fact that a...

General rule of thumb is to use as little water as possible. Couldn't hurt to cover the throttle bodies and muffler opening with plastic bags. Avoid using a high pressure stream of water (even from a normal garden hose), a light spray would be ideal. Avoid spraying water directly on the dash instrum...
