Re: Considering R1150R - newbie questions
I think this is a great long distance touring bike. Obviously not the absolute best but considering how versatile it is, great in the turns also, but also so capable as a touring bike, I say yes! I rode 5500 miles in 13 days last summer on the stock seat with an Alaskan Leather. No problem! I wear n...

Re: Smoke at start up
Parking the bike on the center stand has worked. No smoke at start up. Thank you! I'm wondering if the seal that seeps oil is very difficult/expensive to replace. Thanks again.

Re: Smoke at start up
Thank you. I'm giving that a try today. I'll revise my original statement and say that after one night of sitting, I do get smoke at start up. Thanks again!

Smoke at start up
Hi, Love some help. I'm getting white plumes of smoke at start up. When the bike sits for two nights and I start it up it's fine for about 30 seconds. Then heavy white smoke. I drive a few miles and it goes away. I have a 04 r1150r with 25K. If the bike sits for only 8-10 hours or less, no smoke. An...

Your cost estimate for the following maintenance
I dropped my 2004 R1150R with 23,000 off at an indie for the following maintenance items to be completed. I did not get a total for the work. It's forthcoming. What is your best guess for: Buy and install new Pilot Roads Buy and install new Oddyssey Battery Bleed the brakes Throttle Body Adjustment ...

Re: Anybody ever try this type of cruise control?
+1 on the crampbuster. I never ride without it. The angle is easily adjusted as it rotates clockwise. I also bought one for the laft side as it offers an additional support for my left arm as well.

Re: Ski suit?
Most winter wear will keep most of your body warm as long as you layer up, and the balacalava is essential. Of course you shouls wear armor. The one component missing in generic ski/winter wear as compared to armor is knee pads. The pads offer wind resistance, excuse me, they bock the wind totally a...

Re: Handguards
I used these directions to install mine on my 2004 r1150r. The installation was not very difficult and I used a razor instead of a dremel to make room for the cables. It cuts the wind and I love the look.

Re: ABS Question
That is exactly what is supposed to happen. It turns off when you reach 2-3 mph. If that sequence you described changes, then you have a problem.

Re: Ortlieb Dry Saddlebag
The Ortleib bags are supposed to be really nice and well made. Because they were so expensive I purchased two large dry bags from Seattle Sports. That was enough room, in addition to side cases and a trunk, to do a long distance tour. Check out: http://www.seattlesportsco.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd....

Re: Is my bike at peak engine performance
Well I tried but found it hard to get to the rev limiter in 4th as the speed is 90+. It seemed a bit risky to continue as I was riding on Labor Day weekend and spotted the police monitoring traffic, so I backed off. But, all seemed well up to 7,000 rpms. It's a simple test and I will continue to try.

Re: Cam Tensioner Upgrade-One question
Did you see the crud on the butterfly of the ADV GS? was yours as cruddy?.... I did notice that in the Advrider pics and scoped mine out with a flashlight. The sides looked clean but I did see some black on the air shutter (not sure of the proper term) I did not try to clean that part but left it al...

Is my bike at peak engine performance
Maybe I just suffer from low self esteem but everytime I perform any maintenance or upgrade, I worry that I messed something up and the bike is not operating at peak levels. And, I've just begun to do my own maintenance. So..... Question: What can I do to determine I am getting every horse out of th...

Cam Tensioner Upgrade-One question
I was inspired by Boxer's thread in the Mechanical section to complete this upgrade. See below. I also used step by step directions from Advrider. Boxer's part list was a good first step and right on. I called a dealer and they had all the parts in stock. Trust me when I say, if I did this, you can ...

Re: Stock Seat Upgrade
I use a butt pad made from www.alaskaleather.com. I completed a 5,500 mile tour this summer with an average of 450 miles a day for two weeks. No problems. I was actually quite comfortable. I think the butt pad made a tremendous difference. Very reasonable priced and a nice outfit to buy from. I will...

As for the mirror being loose...there is a hex bolt under the clutch assembly that tightens the mirror.
