Re: Just put a deposit on a R1200R classic...Update!!

Naive question, perhaps: The "classic" is pretty. The wire spokes require, I believe, a tube-type tire. When a flat occurs it is both more difficult to repair and tends to deflate more rapidly (as per my experience with my old R50). Is my concern unreasonable?

Re: Crash bars

Don,

Great point... sometimes it takes a couple of times to get through to me.

You are correct: The valve covers themselves were intact though the plastic protectors had cracked as a result of low speed and zero speed drops.

Re: Crash bars

The problem with the BMW (plastic) protectors is that they tend to crack upon even low speed drops... ask me how I know.

valve cover protectors

Silly question, perhaps, but I must ask.... What are your thoughts about the valve cover protectors that are mounted on top of the valve cover? They are made by several companies, in plastic, aluminum and stainless steel...

dealer advice, please

I'm moving towards buying an R1200R, but first intend to demo it, the F850ST, and perhaps another BMW. Brown Motor Works in Pomona is, I believe, a relatively large dealership that is located about 130 miles away. Ventura is another located about 120 miles away. Fresno BMW is about 115 miles away. M...

"City Lids" - still available?

Are city lids (used to make the bags less wide) available for the BMW hard bags that are used with the R1200R? I'm assembling a list of things to order when I order the bike. The fat look of the standard sized bags always bothered me when I had earlier 'R bikes.

The R1100S I loved... while I had it... until I high sided, destroying the bike and nearly destroying myself (7-8 broken ribs and a broken scapula). I survived, I suspect, because of the gear that I was wearing. ATGATT! The problem with the R1100S, and R1100RT... and R100R... and Triumph Trophy ... ...

deilenberger - lowering...

deilenberger mentioned that he had lowered his R1200R with a hyperpro shock setup. I'm "inseam challenged" at 5'6", 30", 135 pounds and would like to be able to flatfoot a bike for a change... any caveats in using your approach? did you specify to the hyperpro rep a lowering of t...

lowering the bike

If memory serves me correctly, I think i read of somone lowering the R1200R about 10mm by changing front and rear shocks, resulting in (somewhat) improved handling with a more compliant ride. Any information/thoughts about this approach?

seat height comparison

I believe the f800st "low" has a seat height of 29.9... pretty amazing, really. First time I've flat-footed a bike since the R50, many years ago. At the show the rep claimed that the seat on the R1200R was the low seat... I m not so sure that he was correct. The other niggling negative thi...

too tall... for mini me

I went to the cycleworld bike show convinced that I would fall in love with the R1200R. I've owned twins (R50, R100R, R1100RT, R1100S) and have loved twins in the past. I found the current generation of R series bikes to be a bit too tall for my comfort. Perhaps I'm shrinking. Perhaps after a fews y...

Wudo fairing

To my eyes, the Wudo is more visually appealing. I'd enjoy hearing form someone who has installed the fairing with respect to fit and finish, and with respect to ride qualities.

intersting: using Internet Explorer, "it comes right up". Using my favored Mozilla Firefox it is inaccessible. Strange.

Accessing the bmwbikebits site, I see listing for most BMW bikes, but cannot find teh section for the R1200R. Am I jsut incompetant? (you do not have to answer that ). :x
