Re: Brake Failure

I own a 2007 R1200R which I bought new. It has covered approx. 17k miles. I decided to take it and fill up with fuel before a recent trip to Snetterton. To my horror the brake failure light did not go out when I set off up the road. The brakes worked fine but I assume with no ABS. The brake failure ...

Re: Mount Tires with Tire Irons Only?

Mounting tubeless tyres on to alloy wheels without the proper machine is a disaster looking for somewhere to happen. At the very least you risk scratching the wheel and at worst you could break or deform it. The latest machines that tyre fitters use don't lever on the edge of the wheel at all - the ...

Re: Acerbis LED handguards

I agree it would be the perfect approach if you could avoid any interference with the original wiring harness. However we are talking literally about a pin prick in two wires. The Posi Tap connectors could be removed if necessary e.g. on selling the bike and I am sure there would be no significant d...

Re: Acerbis LED handguards

Hello Julian,
Here is a site which sells posi tap connectors and shows how they work:

Be sure to get the small size ones.

Cheers.

Re: Acerbis LED handguards

Hello Julian, Remove the headlight rim by removing the single screw at the base of the shell and easing the chrome rim of its locating lugs which are at the top. Next remove the single screw at the top of the shell and ease out the reflector unit. Support the unit and do not let it dangle on the wir...

LEDs for Acerbis Hand Guards

I have just fitted these LEDs to the Acerbis hand Guards on my R1200R. I bought them from Nippy Norman.
I wired them into the leads to the pilot/side light using small size Posi Tap connectors.
Everything works fine and there are no CANBUS problems.

Re: Oil Cooler Aesthetics

If you are worried about stone damage etc. just buy one of the commercially available protector grills that fit over the mesh and inside the existing surround. Alternatively make your own and stick it inside the surround with sealant mastic. Works fine.
Problem solved.
Cheers.

Re: Is there a hidden fuse?

Hello Dave, As I said, I am no expert. My Haynes Manual says: "No fuses are fitted in the network- in the event of a short circuit or component fault, the affected part of the network is isolated and switched off, leaving the rest of the network intact. .... Note that once a new component has b...

Re: Is there a hidden fuse?

Hello Dave, No there isn't a hidden fuse. I think that what has happened is that because of the short which you caused, the relevant section of the canbus network has shut down, leaving the rest of the system to work as normal. As I understand it, and I must admit I am no expert, there is a possibil...

I just new I read it somewhere. It will also act as a memory saver, preventing the loss of radio presets, al...

Re: Memory Saver

I believe that you can achieve the same result by leaving the battery tender/charger connected to the accessory socket and turned on when you remove the battery. I certainly recall information to this effect when using a CTEK unit on non canbus bikes and on cars - sorry I'm not certain whether the c...

I think the battery terminals are modified, not the holddown strap, but I'm not sure. They look different on the picture I posted to the ones on the Wunderlich America site.

Re: Replacement battery options

Below is the link to the supplier I referred to in my earlier reply.
http://www.odysseybatteriesonline.co.uk/
If you follow the site through to the battery recommended for the R1200R there is a picture of one of the modified PC535 batteries fitted to an R1200R.
Hope this helps.

Re: Replacement battery options

Hello, Apparently the recommended Odyssey battery is a PC535. I have seen on one site in the UK a modified version. I think the terminals are in some way altered. The dimensions of the standard battery are 170 x 99 x 156 if you want to ask a supplier to compare those with the PC535. Good luck. Do le...

Re: Can the clutch activation switch be adjusted?

Hello, Yes the switch can be adjusted. If you look underneath the housing that the lever pivots in you will see a hole. In the hole is a grub screw. You need to slacken the grub screw using a 2mm allen key. It may be slightly stiff due to the fact that the grub screw is coated in some kind of lockin...
