Re: Airhead advice

As the proud owner of an airhead (R80/7) and a Roadster, I would encourage you to consider the /5. There is no question that it is an entirely different animal than the oilhead, but they ARE reliable, parts are readily available (from BMW, ebay and elsewhere) and they are fun to ride. I'll admit tha...

Re: Cyclerob - Clutch Spline Greasing?

I wish you had posted this last week! I had the starter out to clean it up on Monday and would have attempted to check the clutch spline. But on the upside, the starter is much quieter now :D

A reflective bird, eh? That gives me an idea... perhaps some reflective tape on the middle digits of my gloves

Re: Idea for Beakster sticker

I would be good for a couple of shirts and a couple of stickers. Any chance of getting "reflective" stickers?

Re: Tire plugging

Picked up a screw in the front tire of my airhead. Took my Roadster to get a new tube for the airhead and picked up a small coil of rigid wire in the rear tire, and yes, it punctured the tire. Great luck, huh? I was only about 3 miles from home so I clipped it close to the rubber and made a gentle t...

Re: One-piece suit questions

I'm afraid I can't offer advice with that suit, however... you might consider using one of these under your phantom- http://store.mm411.com/catalog/index.cfm?fuseaction=product&theParentId=294&id=1005 They actually work quite well in "dry" heat. Wore mine on a 107F day in Montana l...

Re: Changing the Air filter

Spring of '07 I had the 12k service done by my local independent BMW mechanic. They were just finishing up when I arrived to pick her up and were replacing the air filter via the "loosen and tilt" technique. This spring, thanks to a lot of information gleaned from this site, I performed th...

Kisan also makes a product called the tailBlazer. A "plug & play" brake light replacement which flashes when the brakes are applied.

Re: Tire Balancing Beads

As mentioned in a previous thread, I installed them (front and rear) last month and finally managed to get out of the city for a couple of 250 mile days last week. No issues whatsoever. They appeared to work as advertised. No complaints here.

Re: DIY tire changing

Thanks to all for your suggestions. So it seems the consensus here is "use lube and size doesn't matter." (Sorry, couldn't resist  ) I was using dish soap for lube and I also used a ratcheting tie down without success. No matter what I tried there was enough of a gap between the tire ...

Very impressive! You really test the limits of that bike, and yourself, and come out "shining." Nice work.

Very nice photos! I particularly liked the hairpin with the "wide angle" lens, and the closer. Thanks for sharing.

DIY tire changing

Thanks in large part to info I've gathered here, I decided to pull the trigger and invest in some tire changing tools (Harbor Frieght Tire change stand, Mojolever- both of which worked great). This was my first ever DIY tire change and as expected, it was pretty easy once you get the proper techniqu...

Re: Ceramic balancing beads

Just put some in my new tires last month, but thus far have not managed to get out of the city. Have not noticed anything unusual with daily commuting around town, and it looks like it may be 2-4 weeks before I really get an opportunity to test them. I'll post again once I've had that opportunity. B...

Re: Electrical Gremlin?

Thanks for your help folks. Vapor lock was mentioned by my riding partner that day but we dropped that line of thinking following the spark test. After reviewing the comments here, I'm inclined to believe that vapor lock was indeed the culprit, although there is the tiniest bit of doubt. Either I bo...

The Scene- A hot (107F) day in north central Montana. A rest stop is made for hydration and shade, although the lovely '03 R1150R is left in the sun on tarmac #-o . This is the 13th riding day (ah, lucky 13!) of a Seattle to NYC round trip with essentially flawless performance by the Roadster. After...

Re: sourcing brake! led

Here is another option. It's halogen though, not LED, but same function, i.e. it flashes several times before remaining on. Very easy to install, just plugs in like a regular bulb.

Hi there Gary, I took a trip from Seattle to NYC and back last summer. Much of the westward leg, basically from Michigan's "U.P." to the Idaho panhandle, was spent on US2. As NoRRmad mentioned, it can be rather remote and straight. It was also very beautiful in places (early July for me) a...
