Setting the Clock
What's with the stupid clock setting procedure? Why on Earth would BMW design a ridiculous clock setting procedure with ONE button when there are TWO buttons available. Am I the only one who has issues setting the time? I swear there are also bugs in the that software. I recently took 15 minutes to ...

Re: EWS Idea..
I don't know if BMW are completely ignoring the problem, but I do know that the German bike mags have picked up on it and gave BMW a bit of a bashing which they will certainly listen to. They also suggested a work-around to the problem but it involves carrying a spare EWS module with you and jury-ri...

Re: Brake recall
I just today got a letter from my Swiss dealer asking me to bring the bike in to change the front brake lines because the current (production) ones can get damaged, leak, then run out of fluid. It only affects the front brakes, and leaks would be evident if there was a potential problem. They'll cha...

Whilst I don't have a leak in the same place, my R12R has starting its oil leak from the oil level window. I noticed recently there was some oil around the bottom of the bike just below the window, then the bike just started consuming more oil. Before I knew it (well actually after about another mon...

I use the Etymotic ER-6i... Me too, but with an iPod and not my GPS. But I do not find them that comfortable for long distances. Maybe my ear canal is a little small. BTW I found listening to my iPod whilst riding a little....um....pedestrian. As soon as I took them off I found my senses were sharp...

... I am sure my fuel economy will take a nosedive after the bike is run in Actually, my economy got better after about 2000 k's. Before then I was running at about 5.1, but now I'm running at 4.6. You're right though, keeping the rev's low, i.e. stay in a higher gear, helps a lot. It also makes fo...

I also have the Granite Grey. Was thinking of getting the black, but the Granite Grey just looked very.....ummm...technical, and very original. It really stands out. I get unknown people looking at it at the lights and giving the thumbs up and smiling. No problems as far as scratches are concerned s...

I just recently got back from a tour starting in Switzerland, through Austria, Germany, back to Austria, Italy and finally Switzerland. Also on a R1200R. Tour included: Arlberg, Bavaria, the Tirol, Obersalzburg, Kitzbühel, Gerolpass (+Krimml), Grossglockner, Jaufenpass, Ofenpass and Fluelepass. T...

The difference between cars and bikes is clear - 2 wheels vs 4. A car is, at rest, and even at speed, stable and cannot fall down. A bike however, at rest will want to fall down though when moving, due to gyroscopic forces tends to want to stay upright. You turn a bike at speed with downward pressur...

well Don, as much as would like to also bag the salesman, he may have a point. Consider that the front and rear wheel have different dimensions, shape, profile, operating pressure, and tread depth/wear characteristics. Also, they both have vastly different forces that act on them, when braking and a...

got it, but...
...it was a mistake! What a total waste of money that was. I would have been much better saving the money and putting it towards getting ESA (which I could really use....but didn't get) or the system cases (which I definitely would use). Why? Well, it didn't save my butt on some slippery, wet concre...

Thanks Doug for the explanation. It was exactly what I was looking for. So I can buy my Keprotec reinforced pants knowing that if I take a spill, I'm not going to be better or worse off had I gone down the leather route. Right? Arbee.....what on earth are you actually trying to say? I missed your po...

I tried on some Textile/Fabric based pants today full of funky materials like Cordura, Kevlar, and Gore-Tex like stuff. They are definitely easier to get into and out of than the leathers I tried on, on previous occassions. They're also lighter, more flexible, more colourfull and fitted with reflect...

Riding pants - Leather or Fabric
I'm looking at getting some new pants and am having trouble deciding whether I should get leather or fabric (Cordura etc) based pants. There some new leathers out there with the TFL Cool System that supposedly remain relatively cool whilst riding in the sun, though they are not cheap and a not as co...

Hi Don, thanks for your input. I have largish hands (can one-hand a basketball) and I have not adjusted the levers at all since the bike came out of the box. In any case, the lever at rest position sits perfectly on my first knuckles of my ring and index finger, which is just how I prefer it. My sit...

Hi Skippy Thanks for your explanation. My deal is that I was expecting my 1200R to soak up the bumps and dips a little better than it does and I was wondering if there was something wrong with it. I was riding a '94 Monster before ditching it for the 1200R and it also was a firm ride, and not as goo...

Hi All I'm new here though have been lurking for at least the last 6 months to get an idea on how the 1200R was in the hands of real owners. You all did your job satisfactorily as I am now the proud owner of one to! I've had if for about 6 weeks now and already have 2,500 kms on the clock. I'll post...
