I will let Herb answer for himself...

We use a Scala Rider Teamset. It is Bluetooth from pilot to rider, no wires. Full-duplex two-way communications, great re-chargeable battery life. Not that costly.

Love it.

I am going out on a limb here, and the "collective"may shun me but I do have some experience in this. As a bench mark let me tell you I ride 2-up about 90 percent of the time. We are both in the 60+ years old range, in great health, no heavy weights involved. Here it goes... the R Bike is ...

Just a toss-in for those with 1100's... those mirrors have a different mounting configuration and will not fit R11's.

No need to ask me how I know this...

I will chip in as well... I just changed my fuel filter and the hardest part about the tank removal/change was getting up the courage to do it. It is not that hard. If you have a few tools, and if you have a good place to do the job, and that place is friendly toward a little loose gasoline, and if ...

Kudos to awagnon, of this board

Just to reinforce how great this community is, I want to pass on public thanks to awagnon, of this and other BMW boards. We met on this board and his generous gift of his time and expertise made my change of throttle cable and fuel filter job easier and entertaining. But, his knowledge and use of hi...

went to our new IKEA here in Salt Lake City yesterday and they had the entire skin for $25. Nice looking jobbers too.

Plenty large enough to cover rider and pillions seats.... with some to spare.

Re: Oil change help

OK, the subject line is a bit misleading. YOu seem to make an assumption that is not correct. There are three cavities that use oil.. one for the engine, one for the primary chain and clutch, and another for the gear box. You do not need to change all three. You can change oil in any one, two or al...

With all this talk about screens and laminar flows no one has mentioned Reynolds Effect, and I for one am not either. There we were having a nice discussion and in pops desmophil with some (apparent) facts. what a way to ruin a good chat. For what its worth, I have the factory tall or touring screen...

I have a Haynes manual. I can scan the page and send it to you, or just try to read it for the fuse- if any. Is your e-mail on your profile?

Which?

Bob, I'm Bob too. Not only that, I am also a Harley guy. I ride a Road Glide as my long touring bike, but have the R1100R as a "fun" bike. It is also set up for "sport touring", (meaning when my wife does not want to go). I think you will find the R bike fun, lighter, easier to g...

Oil Cooler Re-Hab

Hi, My name is Bob and I have nasty oil coolers...

What can be done in something less than 12 steps.

How about cleaning and then painting- perhaps flat black in honor of the efficiency of black body radiation... that we all know and love so well?

Or what have you done?

How do you clean your Jugs?

Now that I have your attention... what are the various strategies you use to clean those jugs? Once the bugs and road tar gets baked on how do you get it off? Are any of these components painted and thus we must be careful of strong solvents? What about mild abrasives- like 00 steel wool, or scrubby...

Anyone ever recondition the headers? Mine are a little nasty and pitted fro road dirt/sand.

What about high-temp paint- silver or black- or best to just leave it alone?

Question for K-bike owners R vs RS

I was looking at an ad for a K1200RS and thought it was a pretty spiffy bike.

Can someone enlighten me about what BMW implies with an "RS" designation?

What is the K-bike like compared to the R's?

Well, what I mean is that it is a three wire Deutsch plug, which is plugged into a blue dummy that is in turn tied to a flat area to the rear of the fuse box. The blue dummy plug is zip-tied to a frame sort of member. Edited to Add: The plug in the plastic starter housing is hot- all the time. Good ...

Gregor- I do really appreciate your post, but perhaps you could mention where the screw is located?

there is a screw very near the base of the rear shock, but I do not see any letters or markings.

The front shock has none that I can see either. Maybe I am not looking in the right place.

the wiring is already in there tucked up behind the starter solenoid. Thank you for the tip. Yes, I have a plug, and it probably has wires. I cannot find this on the wiring diagram and without experimentation do not know if it is a switched power source or not. Anyone know? I was planning to use th...

I promise that if I had an owners book I would refer to it.

Perhaps a hint as to the procedures would be helpful.
