Re: BMW Part Numbers/Catalogs
Really useful, thank you. The BM manual is OK but it dose not show you all the parts. I have read the links about drilling the clutch slave for a drain but the manual comments on a vent pipe already fitted. Now all has become clear, the vent pipe is the German translation for Bleed pipe. I am also p...

Re: Difficulty changing gear
I set all my parts out on the bench to try figure out why the Bleed adapter is fitted. I came to the following conclusions. 1) The adapter is on a hose allowing bleeding remotely from the inaccessible slave cylinder (well thought out BMW) 2) The adapter is only there to allow a vacuum extraction sys...

Re: Difficulty changing gear
Ho dear, at first I was happy thinking it was only a bit of lube needed on the shift lever. I decided to look at the fluid first. I located a suitable bleed nipple and got all the fluids ready only to round off the bleed blanking plug. I removed it from the hose so I could work it on the bench. Larg...

Re: Difficulty changing gear
Now I'm worried again, if the clutch slave seal fails do you notice a rapid drop in the clutch fluid level. So far mine seems OK, I'm keeping my eye on it. If I have to change the fluid will I need to buy a bleed nipple to fit in the adapter, its sounds rather a complicated procedure for what should...

Difficulty changing gear
Riding to work this morning I had trouble changing gear, mainly changing down. I parked up and had a very worrying 4 hours thinking all sorts of disasters had occurred. I gave it a good check over in my lunch break and found the Gear lever was very stiff. I applied silicon spray grease to all the pi...

Re: Parts/pieces you wish you had, but no one makes
A good waterproof 90 degree plug to fit in the Gearbox cover accessory socket. The BMW plug and others I have seen all stick out about 1 1/2" and the wire comes out of the end. Only problem is the price would need to be about £7.50 ($14). I have only looked at my ABS but reading the fluid bl...

Re: Headlight lens
Urmoo, if you have the wrong headlamp I have noticed a BMW R1150R is for sale as parts on UK e-bay. Each day more bits are added, no headlamp yet but paste this Item number: 220203498333 in e-bay and ask the seller if he has one.

Re: Headlight lens
I'm measuring 190mm over the lens sealing ring. The measured lens is from an Arab emirates bike, but the correct dip UK lens was a direct replacement. Odd though, at MOT time the light beam still dipped the wrong way, baffling to the tester as the reflector is the same for all markets. Hope he is as...

Re: Black & Tan 1150R
I have a silver bike/tan seat imported from Abu Dabi, the old owner said most BMs over there were fitted with a tan seat to keep them cool when parked in the sun. I have considered part exchanging for a new F800GS and most dealers asked why I had recovered it tan, I was offered £100 more if I con...

Preload idea
Just had a thought, if I fill the reservoirs with industrial silicon perhaps I can do a one off preload, if the silicon is thick enough perhaps it will not be able to escape past the seals.
It will make a mess on the bike if it blows under load though. I think it takes a few weeks to go hard.

Found the cause
I removed the shock absorber today and found the oil leak is from a hydraulic ring fixed at the top of the shocker body. As oil is forced from the adjuster assembly it forces a piston down to pre-load the spring.I re filled the adjuster reservoir and tried it on the bench. Yo can see the piston asse...

Leaking rear shock absorber
I had the rear shocker set on medium for the last 4000 miles but to give a lift to a 210lb friend I wound the shocker up to high. The bike was on the stand at the time, and there was a fair amount or resistance at the adjuster. I noticed clean oil starting to drip down the spring. While running its ...

Disconnecting coil
The coil is a tight fit in the cylinder head and you are best using the special puller in the tool kit to extract it, 2 very wide bladed screwdrivers can also be used to lever the cap out. Once it is loose a bit the leads into the coil just pull out. The connector into the coil is also a bit tight a...

Sluggish
Look at the post about plugcap/coils. Similar symptoms. Try the check of removing each plug cap in turn to see if it makes any difference.

Sunbeemer, your reply was so sensible I am ashamed not to have tried first. I did the following substitution tests 1) Start bike and warm up (Difficult to start) 2) Disconnect lead to l/h coil cap- No change to tickover. Reconnect 3) Stop bike, Renmove lower l/h plug cap and restart,- bike lunges to...

Plug cap/coils
Im having trouble with my twin spark r1150. At first I thought I had poor fuel as it went from running very well to sluggish and very poor just off idle. I changed the fuel etc, changed all four plugs and still it has a lumpy tick over and hesitates at 2000 when setting off. I have a pinging noise f...

Handlebars
I have returned to an r1150r after a 3 year break. I alweys found I had shoulder ache after 100 miles or so. On my new 04 bike I have fitted 25mm high bar extenders. It has made the bike easier to ride and control, it allows a change of angle without hitting the tank. It may not be a solution to eve...
