Scout Faring

I've had a scout on my '04 since it was nearly new. I run the hsortest "sport" windshield, 13" I think. It provides a nice-sized envelope to the extent that I've never been tempted to supplement it with a taller shield. There is no head buffeting and I've only experienced any type of ...

Great link robb! It isn't the only "how to" guide for adjusting valves but it is one of the most thorough not to mention entertaining

I have a scout with the sport (short) windscreen. Great quality, fit and finish. It creates a nice sized air pocket and almost zero buffeting.

System cases

They should attach to your rails but the muffler will be a problem. You will need to lower or change you exhaust, but you can't go without any muffler and expect the bike to run properly (not to mention quietly). You may be able to swap the lids to your cases as I think they are all the same profile...

I too, have issues with the Z6's. I have a fair number of miles on them, but there is still plenty of tread left. The rear tire slides on corners and in moderate to heavy braking situations and fails to inspire confidence. They seemed ok when new, but not any more. I'll be replacing them soon, but n...

Doh! a deer

I smacked a deer with my then-new 1100R. Fortunatly, I only hit the rear leg of deer #2 and I was almost stopped at the time. It did a real number on my headlamp/ t/s cluster and it put a small dent in my fuel tank (don't know how). I managed to keep the bike upright but my sole injury is where my s...

I usually just drop the centerstand and check it in the first couple of minutes. I've never noted any significant increase in level after 2-3 minutes. Sometimes it does show empty, but that's when you have to give it the "holy poo" test. -was it full last time it stopped? -did it leak 2 or...

In the first place, the boxer twins do not surge if properly tuned. I got this straight from a rep from BMW at the bike show. In fact, the (then) new dual sparks don't surge even better than the old single spark models. Seriously, it sounds like you've done all you can. The only additional recommend...

Thanks beemerphile, too bad the caps that come from the factory don't leak. It kinda sucks to have to dish out $60 just to keep from leaking oil all over. Maybe I should sic the EPA on them. On a side note, how do the filler caps work on R1200's? I was in the dealership yesterday and couldn't loosen...

Thanks for your response RB. I believe the dealer already replace the part you referred to as the socket. It;s a little plastic ring that the o-ring on the cap seats up to. They've also replaced the cap, twice. The maddening thing is that the dealer refuses to recognize it as an issue. There is no w...

I had the same thing happen on my "03 recently. It didn't leak as much as you describe, but everytime I looked down it was leaking some. I was doing a fairly fast 200+ miles. The rest of the trip (1300 miles) it didn't leak at all. I don't think it was overfilled. That's how it started, or at ...

Oil running out of the filler cap

I have a 2004 1150R that has progressively leaked more and more oil out of the filler cap. Initially, I blamed myself for sloppy touch-ups when the bike was in the break-in phase, requiring a glug or two every other fill. A year or so ago, I noted that the oil was coming out of the cap and running d...

Why is it that you do this? I can't really tell from the photos what is being accomplished here.
