As much as the low-fuel light is good as a reminder to fill up, it probably shouldn't be used like a fuel gauge for the very reason as it can burn out. Why not just reset you trip meter every time you fill up? Most of us know exactly how many miles our bikes can go before the fuel light comes on (mi...

One way to secure your phone number and address. Would you have given them if he asked? too good to be true is just that. Understood, although the only info he would get is a work cell number (belongs to my employer) and a public meeting place (parking lot of a busy local grocery store) to make the...

Re: Offer for my Bike
He knows I am hesitant to sell my bike so he asked if I knew anyone else who has an R1150R - he is willing to pay fair market price and is driving back to Key West on Wed - so if you live within the route from Texas to Florida and want to sell your bike for cash - email me and I will get in touch w...

Try this. Pull the idle swithch up and start. Let it settle to the mid position for a couple of blocks and then push all the way down. Works all the time for me. That mid position does set the idle a little higher while engine warms up. The problem with mine is I have to physically pull the lever a...

You know what would instantly solve this problem? I fuel shut-off valve like most other motorcycles have. What's up with that BMW? Is a shut-off valve too low-brow for a BMW? It would make removing the tank as simple as: Turn off valve, disconnect fuel hose that leads to the two throttle bodies, rem...

Re: Fuel Filler Cap Leak After Washing
By the way, where do those little overflow fuel slots lead to? The ground or the vapor canister?REDSTAN wrote: The drain holes under the gas cap are there to drain excess gas from an over filled tank

Hard Starting?
Have any of you guys ever had a problem like this with your R1150R? The bike turns over and starts but it won't stay running. This has happened to me twice. Also, the constant restarting caused a slight electrical burning smell (I'm guessing from overheating the starter). The only way to keep the bi...

Well, I got home and removed the seats and peeked under the tank and there it was - Gel Battery. Good thing you mentioned it or I wouldn't have thought about it and ruined my battery (and, quite possibly, my charger too). Oh, well. I guess I won't be needing the charger for a while. I'll just put it...

You know Rich, you bring up a good point. I'm aware that certain batteries (especially Gel batteries) require a different type of charger. I'll have to check it when I get home with it tonight. I'm hoping I can at least see it without having to pull the tank (which I understand is quite the project)...

Well, I wired up the accessory plug and hooked it up to my Battery Tender and plugged it into the Powerlet socket and Viola! , the battery is charging. What I wasn't prepared for is how much my battery did not need charging. It was only about 30 seconds between the yellow light on the charger (Charg...

Mine has the socket near the footpeg too. But jump pins? That's pretty cool. Do any of you happen to know how the socket is wired? Is it center positive or center negative? (I have this question posted in another thread). I'm trying to wire up an accessory plug to my battery tender so I can insert i...

Thanks for the reply, DJ. Actually, my R1150R already has the BMW electrical accessory socket mounted with a little weather-proof flap just above the left footpeg on the side of the bike. What I have is the male plug that inserts into the female accessory socket. The male plug has 2 leads, a center ...

Wiring Accessory Plug
I've just purchased one of those "mini-cigarette-lighter" plugs for the accessory outlet on my Series 80. It has a couple of screw-down wire terminals under the plastic endcap for easy solderless connections. I want to be able to charge the bike's battery with a standard BatteryTender tric...

Saw the 800 S and ST at Daytona BMW and was NOT impressed! Mechanical clutch? Poor suspension? Maintenance intensive motor? You'd be better off getting a Uly . . . really. Jbuzbee, can you give a little more detail? Mechanical clutch? Well sure, only activation differs. Some are cable actuated, som...
