Re: Fuel Leak
Don I would be pleased to measure mine up for you, except it is now all slathered up with leaking JB weld  Perhaps in a week / ten days I'll be able to get you the numbers when my new assembly shows up. The sides of the boss are straight and the area it extends from is flat, so it wouldn't ...

Re: Fuel Leak
Ron, I've been following the issue on that other forum too. Looks like the fuel pump assembly failure is more common than I would have guessed. I tried the JB weld repair twice with negative results. The high pressure fuel first cut it's way through the weld and on the second try, just sprayed out t...

Re: Fuel Leak
Thanks for the symphathy. Much needed. First money I've had to spend on the bike, less farkles of course. Unfortunately, the cracked housing is plastic. Thought about trying some kind of glue, but I'm thinking glue and fuel are not compatable. Besides, the leak poured gasoline down the side of the b...

Fuel Leak
Well, now that the Arizona temperatures are below triple digits (F) I thought I'd go for a ride. Turned the key and started the bike. Almost immediately I had fuel running down the left side of the bike onto the ground. Shut it down without incident. Pulled the tank and reconnected it alongside the ...

Re: Turned R1200R into a modern R90S...
Boxer-lust, we must think alike. Just finished installing my Trophy fairing and everytime I walk by the bike it reminds me of my '84 R100S. You know, the bike I never should have sold. Yes, the fairing was rediculously expensive, but I've missed that S since '94. The price was worth it to me. For so...

Re: Got LOW Comfort seat..
I too just received my low comfort seat and found I'm now sitting so far towards the rear, compared with the stock seat, that I now need bar backs. In addition, the low comfort seat changes the seat to foot relationship just enough that my knees are now cramped and I need to lower the pegs. Are you ...

Re: Windshield Pics
Gezer, I've been contemplating painting my screen black too. Would it be possible for you to post a few more photos from different angles? And, do you have any lessons learned from the painting exercise? Did you scuff up the shield first, apply a primer, what paint did you use, etc.? Thanks,

Re: Do you ever feel like you need a GS?
Traded my GS in for the R. Was a good move on my part. Even though I live in Arizona and there are lots of places to ride the GS off-road, I never did. Too big, too heavy, too expensive. I bought into the whole GS macho thing hook line and sinker, and then never took advantage of its versatility. Fe...

Re: Handy battery failure.
Had a similar battery failure experience. Was just leaving the dealer after purchasing a couple of crush washers, pushed the start button and got the infamous clicking sound. The service manager was standing within earshot writing up another bike and hollered over "I'll be right there!" an...

Re: Dirt and gravel road
I recently watched, for a short time, a course of instruction on how to ride big enduro bikes, ie R1200GS, KTM etc. presented by an outfit out of Prescott, AZ. One guy with a brand new R1200GS Adventure was experiencing a steep learning curve and kept stalling his engine while traversing a circuit c...

Don't confuse us with facts Don. The advertisments for K&N say they're the world's best air filter, so they must be!

Re: OHLINS SPRING RATES
Erik thanks for joining. I'm currently standing at 44 front and 36 rear. My thinking really was backwards. Rides fine for now. I appreciate everyone's input. I believe we have a happy conclusion. Next to tackle the damping and rebound. DEilenberger reading your suspension page will be my first step.

Re: OHLINS SPRING RATES
Well thanks again, my thinking about this has been bassackwards. I need to increase the mechanical preload on both front and rear to get within acceptable ranges of sag. I was thinking to lower the number I needed to decrease spring pressure. What I actually need to do is increase spring pressure to...

Re: OHLINS SPRING RATES
Thank you both for your replies. Very helpful. Some clarifiction. The springs are not progressive and the shocks were ordered from Kyle Racing who had my weight and riding style info. The damping adjustments are as came out of the box, I haven't gotten past sag. I can adjust the front down enough to...

OHLINS SPRING RATES
Hi all, I just finished installing a pair of Ohlins on my R. Way too stiff for me. Ohlins recommends front sag with rider 35-50, mine is 52. Ohlins recommends rear sag with rider 25-40 mine is 42. My springs are 00180-44/57L148 on the front and 01092-79/190L338 on the rear. I told the supplier I wei...

Re: Thinking of getting back in with the R1200R
Dialdn, In my, admittedly biased opinion, the R1200R is a perfect bike to get back in with. I've gone through a bunch of bikes over the last five years. A Ducatti, Buell, F650GS, R1200GS and I am perfectly comfortable saying the R1200R is the best of the bunch. The running joke is if you take one fo...

Re: At Last
Progressive says we cannot give you our best rate because of something in you credit history! r1200rforme; Progressive pulled the same stunt on me recently. I immediately pulled a credit report from Experian, the report they use, and it said "your credit ranking is better than 97.13% of U.S. c...

GPS Power Source
This power plug is a terminal on the factory wire harness designed to power the optional factory GPS. There are three wires involved. 12V, ground and some sort of speed related signal. I've heard it suggested that the speed related signal is intended for police bikes, but can't back that up with fac...

GS vs R
Tom, I traded in my '05 R1200GS and picked up an R1200R. Am very pleased with my decision. Even though I live in Arizona and there are lots of dirt roads about, I was always afraid to ride the GS on them. Too heavy, large and expensive to drop for little ole me. The R is, in my opinion, a much bette...

danstl, I don't think you really have to pull the tank all the way off. Pull the two side covers and locate the one tank retaining bolt on the left side. Pull that bolt and you should be able to lift up the back of the tank and then scoot the tank towards the rear off the two locater bumpers at the ...
