Re: Max wattage for Auxiliary driving lights
Thanks. I had read in my repair manual that the alternator put out 700 watts but had no idea how much the bike consumes. That consumption gives me plenty of room for these lights.

Max wattage for Auxiliary driving lights
What is a safe max wattage for my 96 r1100r? Orielly has 55 watt halogen lights for $24. Price is much better than the led lights from twisted throttle. Those lights, However are 3 watts. I have heated grips and may at some point look Into some heated gear.

Re: Spiegler Brake Lines
BTW Wine Guy, I read your bost on BMW MOA about your mileage/dealership saga. I get about 40 mpg with my 96. When I am out for a ride, my light comes on at about 120 miles and it takes about 3 gallons to fill. In town, riding back and forth to work, my mileage drops to the low 30's So it sounds to m...

Re: Spiegler Brake Lines
Just ordered Spieglers and a new master cylinder for my 96. I rebuilt the master that was leaking when I got the bike. rebuild lasted 6 months. I figured that as long as I was replacing the master, that it was a good time to install new brake lines. Should be in next week and I will be back on the r...

How is the sport screen working for you? I have a parabellum mid size screen and the wind noise is fearsome. I am considering a short screen. How did you mount the 1150 screen?

Re: OIL Filter removal issue
It was in fact a k & n. I thought that I was in trouble. I ripped halfway around the filter when it finally broke loose. They may be great filters, but I will never buy one

I'm betting on spark plug cables. That would be the easiest and most likely candidate. Not sure that will help your cold acceleration problem though.

Re: OIL Filter removal issue
Good description of that nipple. It is not exactly 16mm. Not exactly 5/8 and rounds off when you look at it I will go the screwdriver route and hope for the best. Thanks!

OIL Filter removal issue
When I bought my 96 r1100r last year I changed all of the fluids. I just had a plastic oil filter wrench and it wouldn't grip so I just changed the oil and not the filter. 4000 miles later, I go to change the oil with a BMW oil filter wrench and find that the sides of the filter are smooth. There is...

cleaning throttle bodies?
I am planning a day of general maintenance on my 96 R. Task include valve adjustment, brake fluid change and bleed, new plugs and fluids.
I am wondering if I should loosen the throttle bodies and shoot them with carb cleaner? Good idea, bad idea, or just unnecessary?

Tell me about the texturing on your hard cases. I think they look great. Mine are getting quite beat up

Re: Heated Grips for 96 R1100R?
I installed the grips today and they work great. Heat up very quickly. I will have to look into wiring into the existing heated grip plug or running a relay back to the switch, they don't turn off when I shut off the bike and I know that I will eventually forget and leave them on.

Hey Congrats on the bike. It is a beauty! I have a 96 1100 and absolutely love it. Really like your back rest. It is pricey at AC cycle, but my wife won't ride without a backrest, so I may pick one up.
Enjoy your ride

Where did you read about the aluminum handlebar issue? I had not read that and am hoping it won't be an issue.

Just ordered a pair. Is there an easy way to hook up to a switched power source, rather than wiring directly to the battery?

I would like to add heated grips for my bike and don't want to break the bank. Are there any inexpensive aftermarkets that will work?

Re: Gas Mileage?
Ran some Techron gas treatment through the bike and saw a huge increase in gas mileage. My last tank was a bit over 49. I was worried that my gas warning light was malfunctioning. I got to 145 miles and it hadn't come on. I filled up and put in 3 gallons on the nose.

Re: Gas Mileage?
I see a huge swing in my gas mileage depending on city/hwy usage. I am in the low 30's when I use a tank going back and forth to work, but when I get out on the road, my mileage jumps up to the mid 40's

Re: leaking Master Cylinder. Re build or Replace?
Nothing yet. I have been traveling quite a bit and have not had time to deal with it. I think I am going to get the cylinder from Beemer boneyard and just swap the whole thing out.
