Fluid change question?
Today I changed the gear box and final drive oil in my R 1100r with 10,000 miles on it. Both these oils had been changed about 2000 miles ago. The gear box oil was black but clear and the final drive oil was a silver color and kind of cloudy in a metallic sort of way. Is this a indication of bad thi...

Re: Windshield question
Have a web site for them? I'd like to take a look.Duc750 wrote:I noticed the other day that "Scaretech" or rather airtech streamlining also do a rather nice looking nose faring for the R which might be worth a go - fit is always a bit "fun" with them
Nevermind..... found it.

Re: Windshield question
Phil, I don't think you'd need to sell your R1100R just because there aren't a lot of aftermarket choices for shield available. You can experiment cheaply with different methods, but the key is getting the air that flows over whatever shield you buy - past your head. Some folks buy or fabricate a &...

Windshield question
Any body try or knows someone who has tried a Parabellum Scout fairing on a R1100r? I've tried 3 different windshields trying to find one that does not buffett. The Scout looks good but a 800 bucks its a lot of money just to give it a try. I really love my R but if I can't solve this buffetting issu...

fuel mileage?
I have a very low mileage R1100r and I am only getting about 35 mpg. I don't ride hard at all. Is this about the mileage I can expect? If not ,what are the possible fixes? Thanks in advance for the help.

Engine randomly shuts off
Randomly while riding the engine on my R1100r shut down. It only happens during a down shift. Is this the dreaded Hall effect sensor? The bike always starts right up after this happens.
Thanks

Re: Gas Mileage?
I removed the Big Brass Screw and found that it was caked with carbon. I cleaned it and the passage with carb cleaner and the bike starts easier now. I put in a new air filter when I first got the bike. Next is Seafoam in the gas and a valve check.

Gas Mileage?
I just got my 1998 R110r. It only has 8900 miles on it and today I checked my gas mileage and it was only 32 mpg. Is this about right or is something amiss?
Thanks in advance.

Frame brace?
I was at a shop the other day and they had a R1100r with these Touratech braces on the frame where it meets the tranny. The bike had a big ugly weld on the right side where it had broke. My question is this...is this a common problem? The braces are still available so should I get a set ? Thanks

Oaktree,
Thanks! I found the connector for the switch and disconnected it for now. The dealer wants 350 to replace it, so it will wait for now.

Do a continuity check on the wires while turning the bars. I bet you have a broken wire. I'd patch it myself.

I just bought an 98 R1100r. Does it have the Canbus system. I'm trying to see if I can use the outlet to power my Gerbings heated gear. Thanks

Neutral light woes
I just bought a 1998 R1100r with only 8600 miles on it. The only problem with it is that the neutral light stays on no matter what gear your in. Any thoughts as to where I should start?
