Re: Need help with my 2004 R1150RA
FordPerfect, I'm in the Milwaukee area, I actually work a couple miles away from the dealership and I have a 2004 R1150RA. About 6 months ago I installed the new and improved cam tensioner and it made a world of difference to my bike. I currently have 31000 miles on it. If you need a bike to compare...

Left Cam Chain Tensioner
After many years of reading about the left cam chain tensioner upgrade I finally made the change to my '04 also. What a difference....I wish I would have upgraded it many years ago. I feel like it's a new bike. Some say if it's not broke don't fix it....well I just didn't realize it WAS "broke&...

Re: Is this a symptom a clutch spline failure?
Yep, this was the first time it has happened and is still operational, however I am experiencing the hard down shifts from 3rd to 2nd randomly lately.
Instead of indications of a clutch spline failure could these be symptoms of a leaking clutch slave cylinder?

Is this a symptom a clutch spline failure?
This morning about 1/2 mile after getting on the interstate I was in 6th gear doing about 80 mph and all of a sudden it seemed like my bike popped out of gear! I lost all power to the drivetrain and the rpm's went surging. I pulled the clutch in and let it back out and it caught gear again. Does any...

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)
On a side note.....not sure if this has anything to do with a symptom of the failure, but I did notice that about 1000 miles before it happened, I was having trouble shifting down from third to second gear. The shift lever, just would not go down sometimes. :-k Not what I want to hear. I have an '0...

Check the wire...
Check the wire from the clutch lever down along the handlebar. My wire for the clutch cut-out switch broke and had to be put back together. In one of my previous posts I had a picture of it.

It turns out it was the clutch cut-out switch. I had the bike in for the 18000 mile service and the dealer took care of it. They also took care of my leaking rear drive seal...a few months out of warranty! They were able to do that because I complained about the leak (weep) a few months before it we...

The bike is an '04 r1150r. I did test the heated grips and both do work. I didn't think about the clutch cut-out switch. I'll try starting it tomorrow morning while in gear and see if it starts. DJ - About a year ago I installed bar risers, so you're probably right, the combination of the risers and...

Help - broken wire (pics)
So I was taking my touring screen off for the summer and I noticed that there is a broken wire by my front left fork. The wire runs up to the grip but everything appears to be working (hazards, turn signal, heated grip, horn). I notice that when I pull in the clutch there is a little click, like a s...

Cat - bird seed
My R had this problem last year. It turned out a mouse stored a bunch of bird seed down in the catalytic converter. I took the cat off and shook A LOT of seed out. I couldn't get all of it out which I figured was okay as the rest would burn off. After that I rigged up a wire mesh at the tip of the e...

Current incentives?
Hi everyone,
What have people been seeing for incentives on new BMW motorcycles lately? I have a friend ready to pull the trigger on a new RT but there are no current incentives which is holding him back. Has BMW had any financing or other incentives going on?

Cat
The smell coming from my bike was no doubt coming from the exhaust. I'm glad I finally took the cat off because there was A LOT of bird seed in it. It couldn't have been good for the bike. If you get the smell again, I definitely would suggest taking it off and shaking it out. It doesn't take that l...

There's a lot
I think the reason it's still there is 1. because the mice kept adding more all summer. 2. There's a lot. I think what I'm going to do after I get the seed out is put some sort of screen over the opening to the can.

Figured it out...
I finally figured out what the smell was. Mice must have hid bird seed down the muffler and into the catalytic converter. I took the cat off and shook a bunch of seed out, some of which was burnt. My problem now is I can't get all the seed out. I remember someone posting a pic of the insides of the ...

Another update
Took it to the dealer at lunch, they though it might be a bad catalytic converter. I might try taking the cat off tonight to see if I still get the smell. Does anyone know if it will still run okay with the can/cat off? How loud will it be?

Update
Just a quick update. Rode this morning and am still getting the burnt toast smell. I tried leaning the bike to the right to see if it would die and it didn't. I do know the smell is coming directly from the exhaust, which still leads me to think it is the fuel or something else burning in the engine...
