Gonna be 75F tomorrow here in NC, so time to ride!

Re: Introduction
Yeah, my brother sat on the bike and commented how heavy and top-heavy it seemed. The he rode it and said how it felt much lighter when in motion, especially in the curves.

Vista Cruise Throttle Lock Installed
Installed a Vista Cruise throttle lock (model MCVICY, which is for Yamaha motorcycles, see info http://www.soundoffrec.com/products/cruise.aspx ) last weekend. This was fairly easy and only required a couple of small modifications. The throttle lock itself had to be widened a bit to fit without bind...

Brake Light Micro Switch Problem
I was working on installing a throttle lock this weekend (I'll post a separate thread about that) when I noticed that my brake light was stuck on. After a bit of debugging with my volt meter, I discovered that the micro switch activated by the handbrake was not disengaging, so I removed the switch a...

Re: Just got a "new to me" blue 1997 r1100r.....
You can shift almost anywhere you please. The engine has a lot of torque, so I short shift in heavy traffic quite a bit. Otherwise, it's up to how much gas you want to burn.

Re: Just got a "new to me" blue 1997 r1100r.....
Welcome to the group! I've had my "new to me" 1998 r1100r for a couple of months now. It's a fun bike. I think you can disable the ABS using the button on the steering, just not sure how. Getting the bike onto the center stand is all about technique. I use one hand on the handle bar and on...

Never thought about Line-X on the cases. Good idea for older/scratched used cases.
Nice looking bike !

Re: Introduction
Thanks, Oliver.
I did indeed get the version with ABS. It's been well maintained and seems to run perfectly, aside from the normal clunky gearbox.
cheers,
Scott

Introduction
New owner as of last week of a 1998 R1100R, just checking in. I've owned a wide variety of bikes the past 20+ years (Honda, Yamaha, Harley, Suzuki) but this is my first BMW. So far, I really like it. A lot of useful torque and a very comfortable riding position. Can't wait to take it on a long road ...
