Re: R12R Bling

Thanks for the part # and fiche link. Sorry to beat this horse, but shouldn't there be two different part #s, one for clutch one for brake lever? I only saw one part # which I find odd.

Thanks, Don. It's been purged from my brain. Too much noise in there already.

Re: New R12R Owner on board

Welcome - I'm a recent buyer, too and I really love this bike. My RR came with the sport screen and a big, whopper Parabellum barn door. I can't bring myself to deface this beautiful machine with the huge screen. The sport screen has served me well for summer riding (including 400-500 trips) and som...

Once again, themotorbookstore.com has them. I just got mine, fast and cheap-ish. No affiliation, just a customer.

Re: R or GS? Help please

Julian/OP - glad you had a positive test ride! I definitely agree that the R12R is a much more versatile bike than the Speed Triple - yet still exciting enough. The only thing I'm finding I miss is the Triple's exhaust note!

Good luck on your decision.

Re: DIY oil changers

I'm a new R12R owner and recently changed the oil for the first time (my first time, not the bike's) and had the exact same experience. I used 4l total, although I did pour some oil in the oil filter (new filter with change). I ended up draining a bit of oil out. I'll be interested in hearing from e...

Re: Can you ride on the highways with the sport shield?

Coming from a Speed Triple, I find the sport shield comfortable and buffeting-free at 85-90. Nice clean air. The R12R is a very comfortable, versatile bike - good luck with your decision.

Re: What do you read?

I've been a magazine junkie for years and recently moved many of my subscriptions over to digital form at zinio.com. If, like me, you spend a lot of time in front of a computer, zinio is a great way to read mags (and save a few trees). One year digital sub to Motorcyclist is $7.50 (no postage fee, B...

Re: R or GS? Help please

Coincidently, I also recently had to get rid of my Speed Triple due to discomfort in my neck and upper back. I had spinal surgery, two-level disc replacement and the Speedy was killing me. After months of deliberation, I replaced it with a 2007 R1200R. If you're doing city riding with an occassional...

FYI - repairmanual.com has the manual on backorder.

I recently ordered the 04-09 Haynes manual for $28 through themotorbookstore.com, cheapest I could find.

Re: Footgear

I'll admit that I've never tried BMW boots, but for my money I'm sold on Daytona. German-made and unbelievable slipper-like comfort. Materials are top grade and protection is superb. Helimot in the U.S. is the official stateside distributor, but I usually order mine from biker-land.de in Germany to ...

Re: Air Hawk or similar

+1 on the AirHawk. My girlfriend and I just went on a 400 mile weekend trip, both of us using AirHawks on the standard R12R seat - extremely comfortable and our seat time was only limited by full bladders and empty gas tanks.

Re: Give me the boot/s - please

Once I bought a pair of Daytona Road Stars I found it impossible to wear other boots. Extremely well made, protective and slipper comfortable. Yes, they are expensive, but I save a few $$ and order from Biker-land in Germany. Helimot in the U.S. also sells Daytonas.
