Good adds. I think I'm going to go back and powder coat the wheels flat black. Did they sand blast them down to metal and then finish them? How much did that run you? An autobody shop? I like the mirror idea, but I get out on a lot of long rides and Mickey's ears provide some good visibility. The ba...

I've created a separate custom paint post in this forum with more pics of my bike and hopes of getting some additional Rockster examples ... http://r1150r.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=11021
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!

Rockster Custom Paint
I've seen a bit about de-striping Rocksters in various threads but would like to see where others have gone beyond ... I picked up my standard Halloween package (see black/orange pic) ‘04 Rockster in April of ’06 with about 1,600mi on it. I’ve added another 13,000mi across 11 sta...

I've got the Clymer BMW R850, R1100, R1150 and R1200C (1993-2005) Service, Repair and Maintenance Manual. Just shy of 800 pages. I've used it for a dozen different projects and it has been thorough and accurate for my '04 Rockster. The Clymer manual number is M503-3 and an online search should find ...

Thanks! Yes, the headers with the VHT flat black. The head covers were with the DupliColor High Heat 1200 deg. I would recommend using the latter on the headers, as well, as it seems to be stickier and less scratch prone. If anyone out there has powder-coated their exhaust i would be interested in h...

Idle Speed
So much for trusting the Germans. Ahhh, that we could all live in California with the rest of everyone ... For my '04 Rockster, my BMW service shop mechanic and manager recommend an idle speed of 1100 rpm and my Clymer Service/Repair/Maintenance Manual (M503-3) indicates 1050 - 1150 rpm, so if idlin...

Rockster Parking
After a hundred unimpeded parks in the front row, I've learned to think about it like this: 1. Hot asphalt is bad for everybody ... you dump a bike and they get torn up asphalt. = Concrete 2. A hot bike needs rest in the shade ... you've been riding her hard, she needs rest, and you don't want to si...

Cans Off!
I've used the shield flip approach, a $7 tip from AutoZone, some 800 grit sandpaper to rough it all up, and VHT FlameProof Flat Black paint (parts baked in the oven per instructions on can). The charcoal cannister is gone too, with proper plugging (per another post). 10,000 miles of tonal and visual...

Idle Speed
My Rockster has been idling at 800-900 recently, feels rough, and has even died a few times. The service tech at the local BMW dealership said 1100 is the target. Surely there is enough oil cooling and fine German engineering going on in there to prevent an overheat ... although my continual redlini...

IPF H1 Bulbs for Rockster
I did some more searching around and found the following product for GS that should work for the Rockster also --> http://www.bestrestproducts.com/celestia/order/orderform/?recno=66 I went ahead and ordered hoping that (a) they're about as bright as the Sylvania Silverstar H1 and (b) the year-long w...

Sylvania Silverstar H1 ST
I upgraded from stock to the Sylvania Silverstar H1 ST for my '04 Rockster and was very pleased with the improvement in illumination. HOWEVER, as others have noted, they don't last long. In my case, I think about 3,000 - 4,000 miles. OUCH. I won't go with anything less bright, just from a safety per...

Passenger Pegs
As noted in a previous post, give the passenger pegs a try sometime to stretch out and relax. On long rides I'll sometimes lay down on the tank, put my feet back there and pretend I'm going even faster than 125mph!

SW-MOTECH Risers
I'm also looking for risers. The VerHolens are pricey as VerHell and the Moto-Techniques don't look great to me. I found a somewhat-less-pricey-but-still-pricey option here --> http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productview/2015/246/ Anyone with any experience with these? Claim to fit all kinds of...

Stripes Off
Getting the tiger stripes off was relatively easy to accomplish with the hairdryer, but the sun-fading of the rest of the tank has left shadow stripes. It's time to go custom paint!

120's or Bust
I've had my Rockster opened up all the way on about 15 separate occasions. According to the speedo ... 123mph is guaranteed every time, 127mph is a crawl to get to and requires no headwind, 130mph is on a gradual downhill. I've never under any conditions exceeded 130mph. I have the Wunder windscreen...

BMW Guards Crack
Some prankster decided to top my bike off the center stand last night and I woke to the bike resting on its right side. Besides the counseling I'll need, I also need a new set of cylinder head guards, because the BMW version cracked in half and came unhinged completely and the heads got scuffed a bi...

Off w/Yer Can!
If you haven't done it, do it. I read all the posts and thought I'd give it a try. It didn't take 15 minutes and I couldn't stop smiling for awhile. In fact, I looked really goofy with all that smiling. It's not too loud at all, but the growl is much more noticeable.

Wunderful Screen
Got the Wunderlich Trimm/Sport screen installed on my Rockster and I've taken it a few hundred miles down a windy interstate. Even at 115mph it keeps the wind directed helmet and up (I'm 6'2") and could probably do even better with more adjustment. Probably not the best screen for long-distance...
