Re: Sixth gear
I agree with Raven. A "longer" 6th gear would have been great. I find the 5th gear "long" enough to reach high speeds if necessary... But on the long (boring) highway miles to the south of Europe, I wish my engine made a few less rpm and be more fuel economic. In the end, we driv...

Re: What would you do?
Keep it! If you can afford it, that is. Ok, money in the bank is nice, but the return on a few thousand dollars in a savings account (or some risky fund) is not going to make you rich. I understand your dilemma regarding your brother. But wouldn't he be a bit more causious either? Plus he will ride ...

Re: Living at altitude over 6200ft
No issues to be expected. I drove mine over a couple of passes in the Alps, including the Selvio Pass (~9048ft). My buddy on his Suzuki SV650s had trouble running idle. My injection system was just doing its job. Have fun around the twisties and please register your details and picture (!) on the &q...

Re: Planning a long trip, need help!
Nice to read all the advice. I don't have much to add except to help you remember that you are driving a BMW. They last. Treat them well and they last even longer. I always carry the standard tool kit with me on trips here around Europe. I've used it almost every trip, but NEVER on my own bike. Hond...

Re: Fuel consumption - 100 miles to a tank!
Good old topic but with new members commenting again... Am I getting old? In winter, in-and-around city traffic I usually only get as good as 13.5 km to the liter. My car can do better than that... In summer, on vacations in Dolomites for example, despite a somewhat  agressive driving style, I...

Re: Wobbling at high speeds
Wobbling? Not sure what you mean. I have driven a few different bikes now and must say that the Rockster is extremely stable. Even in high-speed curves with rough dilatation joints etc. Did you check the shock absorbers and tire pressure?

Re: Edition 80 owner's database
During my vacation in Brazil, I ran into the #1249 Limited Edition. For sale in Sao Paulo with only 2500 km on the gauge. How on earth is that possible in a 12-million people city? I guess my hotel was close to the dealership...

Boxerpunk, you may be right. I can't recall where I found CH Racing M900's credentials. I thought he just performed some serious paintwork on his ED80. I do notice the center stand in the picture which was not standard. Anyways, I have it as an option as well. Any other ways to find out from the pic...

Hmm. Interesting to hear that the fuse will pop after an easy start. That would imply that the fuse may pop under any circumstances (hot or cold engine). Not sure if I can help you there. I just don't know any thing about voltage regulators etc. A last note on starting the engine: you know that the ...

Now, for the statistic fetishists  , let's do some math. Is it correct to expect that from these numbers (only 20 numbers known) the total number of Limited Editions produced is equal to 2003? Let's take into account that the lowest existing number is 1. n(1) = 1 n(20) = 1907 n(max) = n(20) + ...

I tend to agree with you although I don't really experience any problems with it. I do noticed that wearing leathers in stead of weather proof pants prevents you from sliding forward. I occasionally feel my right knee touching the oilcooler as well. I'm 6'. But when I remind myself of the advice fro...
