I banged my ('96 R110R) right hard-shell luggage case against the garage wall and the front CLEAT broke off, making it useless. A replacement bag looks shockingly expensive.
Anybody know where to find a right case for less than my rent?
I was riding home last night (fortunately only going about 35 mph) and my headlight went out. At first I thought the bulb blew, but after some jiggling (once on the roadside!) it came back on. Back home I opened up the Hi/Low beam assembly and sprayed some WD40 in there to drive off any moisture, an...
I ride a '96 R1100R in Colorado. I ride year-round, except of course when snow or ice is on the roads. This winter i want to change that  I'm thinking of getting a spare set of wheels/rims, and then putting carbide tire studs in them http://www.aerostich.com/self-tapping-carbide-tire-studs....
Heading down to SW Colorado in a week, and have been searching high and low for a reasonably priced rear rack. The OEM BMW rack is underwhelming to me, and way too expensive. I found this one online (hope the photo loads . . .is it just me or is getting pictures on here really tough?) It's made for ...
Thanks, Oliver. Took her out for a ride today and it was up in the 50's: absolutely no sticking. FYI, if anybody plans on riding the Peak to Peak Hwy in Colorado, I would advise against it until May! Snow melt, sand/gravel, and fifty mph winds today. #-o But we did win a couple of hundred in Black H...
Maybe it's due to the very cold winter here in Colorado, but my gear shift lever is sticking for a bit when I press it down from neutral into first gear. I'm hoping that this isn't a transmission thing . . . any thoughts? Thanks.
Oh, another tidbit about fitting the SM-5 into the relay box: The original relay is held in place by a black plastic. . . uh. . . "holder thingie" which keeps it from falling down into the bikes innards. This "holder thingie" prevents the SM-5 relay from fitting down far enough s...
I just installed the SM-5 (available here: https://www.kisantech.com/view_product.php?product=SM-5 ). The instructions included by Kisan for releasing that "U" cam-lock are piss poor! If you're installing the SM-5, see if this works better for you: The "U" lock is held in place b...
Some say that it takes well into the 20,000 (miles) to fully break in the BMW boxer engine. I'm agnostic about that.
Your 37 mpg is consistent with what I get in stop and go traffic. On the open road I'm getting about 60 mpg.
Scott, As you've likely already learned, the R1100R is a sweet riding machine. Given the high weight (over 500 lbs) and bulbous gas tank I sometimes think of mine as The Nimble Hippo! Once you're rolling though, her beauty shines. Yeah, the wide torque band is great, just don't bog it too often down...
babulin2002, appreciate it! That was it: I had it under-filled. Fortunately I haven't been riding for the past several days due to a wicked flu/cold, but today felt well enough to try your suggestion. For those of you who may have had this problem: the oil level window has a yellow/gold tint to it w...
I just changed my engine oil and oil filter and am vexed by the oil level window: I filled it with 3.5 liters, figuring that I'd slowly add oil until I got a mid-window oil level, but the window shows yellow/gold: the color of fresh oil. :-k Since I put 3.5 liters in, and my Clymer manual says it ta...
Just got back from a vacation ride in Colorado from Boulder to Glenwood Springs and back. Of course I avoided I-70, and rode Hwy. 285 down to Buena Vista, then up and over Hwy. 82 into Aspen (spectacular ride, especially with the leaves in full color this time of year.) Normally I ride in and around...
Just got back from vacation in Glenwood Springs, CO. From Boulder I rode down Hwy. 93, past Red Rocks, through Morrison, and onto 285 for several hours. Hwy. 285 is not good riding: heavier traffic, long stretches of flat, farm equipment blocking traffic . . . but it got me to Hwy. 82, which rises f...
My '96 fuel light goes on at around 120 mi. too. At approximately 40 mpg (city and highway riding) I feel comfortable taking it to 160, then I'm looking for gas, but I usually just refill at around 120.
I'm riding my '96 R1100R year round here in Colorado, and needless to say, it gets pretty cold.
Does anybody know how long I should let her warm up before heading off to work (less than 5 mi. away)?
Thanks!
