Stains on REAR wheel.

Good Day! My rear wheel on my 08 R12R are getting " stain " from the brake pad dust. I tried simple green and it just removes the surface dust on the wheels. My front wheels dont seem to have this problem. Can anybody recommend a cleaner ?

Re: Lowered chassis

I had my 08 lowered 3/4". The Beemer Shop in Scotts Valley did it with special ordered Wilbert Shock. Rough ride over bumps and dips, doesnt have the clearence around turns ( watch your toes). Trade offs, felt safer at stop lites, stops, parking the bike, moving the bike backwards while sitting...

Re: Calling UK 06-11 owners. advice on SW-Motech quick-lok

Im in USA, but like to add my 2 cents. I have the SW-Motech on my US 08 R12R. The twist lock at the back license position is critical. Without it, i believe it would flex too much, worst with filled side carriers.

Re: Considering the R1200R. A few Questions

Had my Kawasaki ZR7 since it had 79 miles on it, sold it with 18,000. Thought I would never forget it. Got on the R12R, glad I sold the Kawa. Great all round bike.

Booster Plug installation for the non mechanic.

When somebody installs the booster plug in their R12R, please post pictures and step by step instructions. I tried this morning and could not find the correct components to remove. I removed BOTH side plastic panels (4) removed that one bolt holding the tank, held the tank up with a towel, looked in...

Re: Fuel strip

lost my FS on my 08 at 1200 miles, yeah 1200 miles. i never really relied on any fuel gauges. from HD to Metric now to bmw's, I ALWAYS used the trip odometer. not going get it replaced b/c of the high failure rate of this item. still luv the bike.

Ok, I'm wrong. The second part # 46 52 7 716 334 is correct. The different in length is only half an inch.

Center Stand for lowered r12r

Good day! I lowered my 2008 R12R 1". Now I'm looking for a centerstand for my bike. I went to my local BMW shop and ordered part # 46 52 7 675 690. This is for the OEM standard height bike, I returned it! Then I ordered # 46 52 7 716 334, AGAIN, standard height centerstand. The parts person loo...

Re: Fuel Stip just Went!

My fuel strip just went south on Wednesday. The bike only has 1900 miles. I was on Highway 1 coming back from the Beemer Shop in Scotts Valley. I filled up before leaving, got on the road, was going along, then I saw the orange gas pump icon on the display. Damn!! I always reset my trip 1 after each...

Re: Just got new shocks

Mike,

I will be visiting the Beemer Shop next week. How many hours did it take? I wanted to rent a car and drive to Santa Cruz for a bite, then visit my son at UCSC.

Re: Need Shop to install new Lowering kit

bmw doesn't sell a lowering kit per say. they do sell new lowered bikes though. from my searches, you have to order aftermarket shocks and let them know you want them x amount lower that stock. i just ordered wilber shocks made 1" lower than stock, NOT cheap. but the r12r will be my everyday bi...

Re: Need Shop to install new Lowering kit

I decided to "go local " for my new lower shocks. I will be ordering my shocks from Ted Porter's Beemer Shop in Santa Cruz, just 80 miles from where I live. I will be using Wilber Shocks instead of Hyperpro's. From what I been reading, both are great shocks. Now I have to figure out whats ...

Re: Need Shop to install new Lowering kit

Don,

Thanks for your offer, but I'm in no hurry. Heck, maybe I'll give it a shot. Might save me some money to boot. Which shock did you do first?, the front or the rear? or does it matter?

Need Shop to install new Lowering kit

Good evening. I am going to place an order with Hyperpro for a front/rear 30mm lowering kit. Before I do this, I will need a shop in my area to install it plus adjust my side stand and center stand. I live in the San Francisco bay area. Any help will be appreciated. Thank You!

Re: R1200R

I have a 2008 with the low seat. My inseam is 28"x 5'5" x 145lbs. At a stop, I could only place the ball of my feet down. I'm ok with this because I've been riding for many years. I prefer to place the toe, mid sole and maybe the very front of the heel down. I don't need to be flatfooted. ...
