Re: Keeping the battery charged over winter

I lived in Michigan up until 3.5 years ago and I never had any luck charging in place. My motorcycle and summer vehicle batteries ALWAYS did better being removed and trickle charged in the house during the winter months.

Re: Someone please invent a R1200R highway peg "jug peg"

Well I was wondering about these on ebay. Item #130441835082. Seller hasn't gotten back to me about if they'll work with the BMW protectors but they look kinda cool.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130441835082&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT#ht_1171w...

battery tender. With one, batteries last for YEARS. Without, less. Sorry for the unscientific eval but my honest opinion.

Re: Someone please invent a R1200R highway peg "jug peg"

Thanks Rick, I've seen those and to me they would be the outer lip of the jug peg which would prevent my legs from falling off the side of the jugs. I picture thin wire stretching from the those brackets towards the interior of the bike, providing a wire framed "shelf" or "rack" ...

Someone please invent a R1200R highway peg "jug peg"

I want to stretch my legs out. I've seen the elf's and I think those are somewhat laughable and too close, too far out, etc. I want to make myself a standoff for the top of the jugs which would do two things.. 1) keep my legs from slow roasting on the top of the cylinders. 2) allow for cooling airfl...

Re: R1200R maintenance compared to R1150R?

The serviuce light thing is not Aussie only unfortunately. It's on my '08 R12 since I bought it used with 8900 miles. I brought it to the dealer for the front brake cable recall and asked them to check it out, remove the indicator and I would gladly pay for it. They did not do anything. They gave me...

Re: Suburban Machinery Peg Lowering

I can't say anything about the affect with the lowered BMW but I do have them on my stock ride height R12 and they are awesome. Any perceived changes to the left shifter / peg relationship will be over in a week or so after muscle memory takes over. I had these on my R1150R. The first time I rode my...

Re: R12R Givi Top Box

Update, used the universal base with nothing in particular done except for to beat the living bajezus out the the stock plates with a ball peen hammer, a small vise and a grinder in order to more properly fit the nooks and crannies of the BMW top rack. All in all, it was an easy modification using t...

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.

I like it, esp the guages, and side profile with the seat/tank. If the new gauge cluster is retrofittable to an '08, I might consider it if the price is right (not likely). I"ll keep my eyes out for a used 2012 (give bmw a year plus to work bugs out) in year 2014 or so....

Re: R1200R: un-popular or simply sold out?

I say, BUY USED. Be patient and hunt the deal. You will find it, it will find you. You will not have your first choice of color or accessories but the hunt will prove worth the wait in the end. The R1200R is a fine machine indeed. It brings a smile to my face on nearly every ride (ok, every ride).

Re: How Do You Ride

I used to lug my R1150R under 3500 cruizing. After installing a techlusion, I seemed to enjoy the engine sound and feel above 4K a bit more. I regularly ride and cruise on the R1200R above 4500 to 5000. I hit the rev limiter often when I'm hot rodding around town and that is annoying. I've adjusted ...

Re: Decent deal or too good to be true?

That price doesn't strike me as too odd. Normal, in fact. A 2009 sold on fleabay with less than 3000 miles and factory bags for just around $9000. There's always a large disparity between what sellers ask and what cash buyers pay. I got my loaded '08 (with a few miles on the clock) for a GREAT price...

Re: BMW Topcase 28L (and 49L) compatability

Thanks for the info and the pics. The 49L looks a bit too big on the R12 IMO. I had a 40L H&B on the R1150R which was just about right (even a little large looking). I think I'll go for the 28L and deal with the smallish size.

BMW Topcase 28L (and 49L) compatability

Yo guys, Does anyone know if the 28L topcase for an R1200RT will fit on the R1200R with the factory BMW side rails and top plate? My guess is that it will. The part numbers are the same as found on the parts fiche's such as MaxBMW but I don't want to guess and end up with another paperweight. Same q...

mcmaster.com, grainger.com, fastenall.com? the last two have local offices. Bigger cities have fastener supply companies that have will-call counters.

Re: Anyone out there come from an R1150R?

If you're tight on cash, keep the R1150R. For me, the move up was inevitable in a way, I was reluctant to spend the cash but when one came up locally at a good price, I said to myself, i'd be stupid if I didn't buy it. The test ride was somewhat a bit ho hum, actually, and I was starting to talk mys...

Re: change to R1200R

If you don't want a whole new bike and it's just the surging that annoys you, try the techlusion. It worked for me. I think I noticed one surge in my 4 days of owning the R1200R, that's one surge. Not bad.

Re: New (to me) 2008 R1200R owner

ya I'll probably loose the windscreen. I hate them. I am curious about the small fly screen and keeping my instrument cluster clean so I'm willing to butcher the small screen,.

I sold both that came with my R1150R. It's just too hot in Texas to merit a screen IMO and I don't ride long distances.
