Re: Bee stings & Benadryl

Great thread. I need to get my epi pen prescription refilled, and get some new benadryl for the bike.

Re: R1200R vs. R1200GS

I recently rode a 2010 cam head GS for a hundred or so miles and recently rode a R1200R 2012 cam head as a loaner a 150 or so miles. I took the R bike up in my local mountains for a 75 mile run on the crest. I found the R bike to be fun in both the city and the canyons, yet it was a bit cramped. The...

DJ, it certainly still looks new. You are close to passing "its old" to "its a classic". :D

Re: A sad farewell to one of the forums founder members...

Terrible news this morning. First saw Bob's post over on Advrider. Pat was a true character, and will be missed. Been thinking of him all day. Took me awhile to log back on here, as my password was wonky. Put my passenger pegs down this morning for the ride to work, so a fellow rider could ride alon...

Re: How does the 1200 compare to the 1150?

You might want to ride a Ducati 1100 Monster. Aircooled twin very much in league with a BMW Boxer. The Duc motor is basically the same as in my Hyper & its very nice. A plus on the Ducs is the reliable chain drive. BTW, when I bought my 1200GSA I noticed it was the same weight as an R1150R. R120...

Re: ABS or No ABS that is the question...

Boy, a couple of years ago all h-ll would break out when anybody posted "the ABS question". I would get ABS on any bike its offered on. I have a Ducati Hypermotard S model, it has the same brake calipers with slightly smaller diameter rotors that the Ducati 1098S has. The Hyper is a sub 40...

Re: Hexhead Model Comparo's GS vs R; ST vs RT; etc

I owned an R1150R and have test ridden an R1200R a couple of times, but ended up with this: http://hennon.smugmug.com/photos/216090677_68sPf-XL.jpg I find the GSA to be a great commuter, touring bike and canyon bike. The extra suspension smooths out freeways. While the bike is heavy (its the same we...

Re: Well I may be joining your ranks sooner than expected....

Use the fact that its pretty close to needing the first service (its really at 1,000KM, or one really good day of riding) which costs around $300US IIRC as an excuse to knock a few $$ of the price. First service is retorquing the head bolts, valve adjust, oil change, and final drive oil change, IIRC...

Ducati has been doing that since day one with their chipped key bikes. BMW needs to read the Ducati forums. ;)

Re: Intro and question

Welcome to the R12R Board! I am certainly not pretending to speak for socalrob, but am guessing he used "overwhelmed" in the sense of "amazed " or "astonished." The older bikes are great, but the technical improvements of the newer bikes make a dramatic difference in a...

Re: R1200R Handguards - availability?

I posted the following experience regarding handguard/brake interference and the possible consequences on the Advrider forum last May: I was tooling down the freeway today at about 65mph on my 07 GSA-ABS & realized that I was slowing down & the engine was really lugging as I gave it more thr...

Re: Intro and question

I suspect that if you bought a R1200R you would be overwhelmed by the difference between a modern bike like the RR and your 85 Honda. The R1200R is a fantastic bike.

Re: Lane splitting

I enjoy lane splitting when traveling cross town. It can be fun and exciting in the same way a good canyon road is. You have to have 100 percent focus, thats for sure, and it is very satisfying to cruise past endless lines of cars. Keep at no more than 20 mph or so above the surrounding traffic and ...

I just posted this over in off topic, I think some of it might help here: I put a zumo 450 on my 1200GSA before a 3,000 mile trip last month. I like it for much of the above reasons. I don't feel a real need for the voice commands as on long trips I use an Ipod with sound isolating earplugs anyway. ...

I recently picked up a Canon TX1 Powershot. This is a small camera (fits in mans pocket & shirt pocket), that both shoots HD Movies & shoots 7.1 meg still shots. Shoots the still shots while filming. All on data cards. A 4 gig card is good for 30 miutes of HD movie. Downloads onto my Mac. Ha...

I should still look at the Duke, just that I don't really get excited about the KTM style. Each his own kind of thing. Also am looking for something with less power (thus the aircooled 2 valve Duc seems good to me) that I can wring out a bit more without being in jail. Also, there is no good Aprilli...

Ducati Hypermotard Intro Party

Went to the Ducati Hypermotard party Thursday night at ProItalia here in LA. They are only about 3 miles from my house. The party was open to people with deposits on a Hypermotard, which I put down about a week ago. I found out at the party that one person has dropped out, so now I'm #41 on the loca...
