Oliver,
Thanks for your advice. I've decided to stick with this bike and will consider getting a newer one only if my hand is forced to do otherwise. It would just be so simple if I didn't like it so darn much...

Re: keep the 1100 or go to a 1200?
Thank you, ICBMGuy. I do like my bike, I'm just gun shy that I'll be on another long trip and have the bike die on me. I just hope those events are not to be expected just because it's a 13-year old bike. On the other hand, like you say, if all the old parts have already been replaced, I should be g...

keep the 1100 or go to a 1200?
I have a '99 R1100R with 61,000 miles on it, of which I've put on 57,000 over the 6 years I've owned it. I've had electrical issues resulting in a dead bike on 2 occasions. Once an ECU needed replacement, and most recently a Hall's was replaced. The bike is now great again, and perfectly comfortable...

Does anyone have a non-ABS ECU for a 1999 R1100R for sale? Thank you.

shocks
I have a '99 R1100R with 37K miles, and am in need of new(er) shocks. I am reluctant to spend $1500+ on shocks for a bike worth maybe $3500. I'd appreciate any advice on new or used shocks, brands that are good and good values, good places to shop, etc. Or should I just trade in for an R1150R before...

Re: tail bag recommendation
Pinecone,
Those MotoFizz bags look great, and might do the trick. I'll call the company tomorrow and look into how easy they are to remove. Thanks for the tip.

tail bag recommendation
Can anyone recommend a large tail bag that will fit on an R1100R? I wouldn't mind one that extends over the top of my hard cases, but really want one that has quick releases for easy removal. I'm obviously not too good at packing lightly. Thanks for any suggestions.

dash lights?
Dumb question: Are my speedo/tach on my 1999 R1100R supposed to be lit?
