Cool air around throttle body
Hi, Lately, when the engine on My 2004 R with 40K miles is warm/hot, the idle drops and engine runs rough. I put my hand near/around the left hand throttle tube and I feel cool air circulating around it. If I do this to the right throttle tube I don't feel that same cool air. Is this a vacum leak? a...

protecting Hall sensor
Hi, After washing my bike bike 2 weeks ago, it wouldn't start. The symptoms were like the ones described when a Hall sensor acts up, e.g., tach needle jumping, turns over, but doesn't start etc. This was a little disconcerting, the bike is a 2004 R with 38K miles. Does this indicate my Hall sensor i...

Front wheel dented
Hi, Just found a nice dent in my front wheel, no doubt attributable to NY/NJ potholes. New wheel list for 836.00, I can probably get it cheaper @ Chicago BMW but still expensive. A dealer will charge me a premium for the part and installation. I guess if I but the wheel, I only have to change out th...

Fork leaking oil
Hi,
Today I found some oil on the inner fork slider. I did a search for replacing the fork seals but didn't find much. Anyone here replace their for seals. Is it a doi job or for the dealer. Wonder what a dealer would charge?
thanks,
Gene

Re: Coil tubes
Part # 12 13 7 680 644 about 90 each from Chicago BMW, I recommend replacing them to anyone with engine problems. The bike has so much more power that I've had to change the way I change gears, and power that jolts my neck back. I took apart the old ones and there was no oxidation, but apparently th...

Coil tubes
wow, I just replaced both of mine on my 2004 twin spark and frankly I am blown away by all the problems fixed and increased power, idle is back to normal, no more hesitation, runs, sounds better at all rpms. The bike has 40K miles, but its been running bad for like 2 years. Breaks my heart to think ...

Speedometer Cable
I ordered two "cable guides" that attach to the front whell fender and fork, since the others rotted out. I have a 2004. The only way to feed the cable through the guides is by removing one end. Anyone have a suggestion on which side is easier to remove-- at speedometer or at wheel and if ...

Careful where you get your haircut
So here I was about 5:30 pm, in the barber's' chair, when someone walks in and asks "anyone with a bmw bike parked out there?" Naturally all the blood from my face dropped to my belly. turns out a gal in a Jeep had backed up into my spot and hit my bike and knocked it down, on the way down...

Re: Troubles with engine
I would look into the Electronic Control Module or Motronic or whatever BMW calls it. I had a friend who's bike started with the same symptoms. A few months earlier he had opened up his engine managment box (which was rivited and not meant to be opened) so that he could install a "chip" to...

Weak headlight/bad ground
Hi, Thought I would approach this problem under new post. My battery is strong enough to start the motor, yet headlight is very dim. Could this be a bad ground or something else. I'm going to replace battery next week anyway cause its 4 years old, but I've been thinking about my headlight problem an...

Re: Weak headlight=weak battery
Well I don't think I have to charge my battery, since I ride everyday and alternator handles that.
My dilema is do I buy a battery tonight or will it hold till Saturday.

Weak headlight=weak battery
Hope this question doesn't sound to dumb My 2004 is up for a replacement of its gel battery, but I was hoping to put it off till end of summer, but recently especially this morning I've noticed the headlight is quite dim. Would this be a simple indication that battery is weak. I hooked up a volmeter...

Re: BMW pride!
I think that wearing BMW shirts caps etc. when not riding or in a riding environment could label someone as a showoff. I have a bunch of Motorad shirts and caps, but always careful where I wear it. I think people may think I'm trying to show off that I own a BMW. Just my opinion, but I like to mix w...

Re: Initial Report:Conti Road Attacks
Phil C, You have hot weather and these tires will be hot quick. Our Roadsters have a low center of gravity and that helps. I rode a new F800S with Contis on them in the winter and nearly killed myself once and broke traction a second time will perfectly verticle, I just engine braked before a red li...

Should we all carry a spare Hall sensor
Wow it seems like this can be a deal breaker, for those of us who take long trips if one of these go out and there isn't a bmw dealer nearby, that could be a problem. What do you think should we carry a spare, are they hard to install?
thanks,
G

Re: Initial Report:Conti Road Attacks
i don't like the Contis, they only perform well when very hot, they are good racing tires but not good for every day riding. When cold they are downright dangerous, I know people who have gone down while making right hand turns on cold contis. The Z6 in my view is the ultimate evolution of bike tire...

Re: Big Brass Screws won't work
yep, I'm using a twinmax. with all do respect I don't see seefoam or techron as some type of miracle cure. I have in the past months replaced air, fuel filters, plugs, used techron in the tank... cleaned the bbs I think there is something more serious going on. The bike is also hard to start, this af...
